“WHAT?!”
Waterboy shrunk into his seat a little and gulped nervously. Robert had called them into the office a few moments ago for a small staff meeting, and by small it meant just him, Robert and Flambae.
The ex-villian sat across the table from him with a scrutinising look, his fiery eyes narrowed and his mouth drawn into a thin line. The pair had just been told they’d have ‘some one-on-one bonding time.’
“When you leave this room I request that you guys hang out for a bit and report back in the morning, okay?” Robert dodged a hastily thrown stapler and scrubbed a hand across his face “I don’t care what you two do as long as you please keep it civil.”
There was silence and he glanced over to Waterboy, who just nodded and gave a tentative thumbs up. “Good, we'll meet here tomorrow morning.” With that he was up and out the door before either of them could utter a word, or a curse.
Waterboy dragged his eyes to his counterpart who he could feel seething from where he sat. “Uhm, so Uh.” The superhero bit the inside of his cheek and mulled over what he could possibly say.
But before he could conjure up a sentence Flambae braced his hands on the table and shot forward, his hot breath ghosting across the other's face.
His face only inches from the other man's. “What do you want? Spit it out wet pussy.” Waterboy could feel heat coloring his cheeks and his breathing labored. He could only muster a high pitched “Uhm, m-my names Waterboy.” Flambae’s eye twitched and he sighed, slumping back into his chair, the fight draining from him.
“I can’t believe I’m stuck with you for the next...” A guttural cry tore from his throat as he glared at the slow hands on the clock.
“W-we could catch a movie if y-you want? I’ve seen some good posters from my seat on the bus rides to work.” Waterboy smiled as wide as he could, his lips trembling from the strain and the idea of possible rejection.
The room was eerily silent and the air dense with dread “Of course you ride the bus.”
Not a rejection. Waterboy put up his index finger “It’s not as bad as you would think, plenty of nice people who have interesting stories. The seats are super comfortable if you sit on them right too or find the right one.” The ex-supervillian scowled and stood from his seat, making his way to the door without a word in response. “Wait!” Waterboy scrambled over his own feet to follow.
Thankfully the movie they’d chosen wasn’t terribly crowded, only 5 other occupants sat in the surrounding seats and in various rows. Flambae folded his arms, propping his feet up against the seat in front of him, a permanent frown rested on his lips. His counterpart on the other hand sat giddily looking from screen to his partner and back to the screen.
“Watch the fucking movie or we’re leaving.” Flambae spat and turned his body out of view.
Waterboy let out a soft sigh and looked at the empty chair in front of him. He thought back to earlier when the ex-supervillian had been up and in his face, he could practically count the individual strands of hairs on his head.
And his mouth, oh his mouth had been only mere inches from his own, what if he had just- That thought was cut short as the audience let out a laugh, including Flambae.
Waterboy peered over to him watching how the glow from the movie screen washed over him, a radiant sun here in the darkened theater. He couldn’t tear his eyes away as he examined everything about the man next to him, his missing tooth (which only boosted his good looks somehow), the hairs that didn't make it into the ponytail, and how his eyebrows raised slightly when he laughed.
The lights began to brighten and the credits rolled along the screen, other movie goers rose to their feet and began to leave. Did it really end already? Waterboy thought forlornly, dreading the idea that Flambae could’ve noticed him watching something other than the movie.
He'd spent most of the later half of the film gawking at the man, maybe he could make small talk about what happened during the movie. As they walked to the exit door the superhero picked at his fingers.
“W-what did you think?” Chancing another glance at Flambae who was already eyeing him, an unreadable look on his face “Can I help you?” Waterboy averted his gaze to the floor and the pair slowed to a stop by the door. “Huh?” The superhero asked. “You have a staring problem.” Flambae retorted a cruel smile on his face.
“S-sorry, I can’t help it, you’re like a moth, I mean, I’m like a moth and you’re the flame. You know that metaphor. You interest me, I mean you’re really interesting- Oh!” Before he could finish his ramblings a pair of lips crashed into his own, two hands yanked him forward by the front of his costume, lifting him off the ground a few inches.
Waterboy melted, literally and figuratively, into the touch, his mind going a million miles an hour. His hands searched for the other's hips and latched onto the fabric of his suit like a man starving.
The water that rolled off of him met Flambae's body, seemingly magnetised, producing a soft sizzling noise, followed by gentle wafts of steam.
Subsequently the sprinklers burst into action and droplets showered down onto them. Waterboy felt his feet hit the floor and Flambae let out a string of curses, shielding his eyes as he turned to pull open the door. The duo made it outside into the hall as people rushed by them back into the theater, armed with a fire extinguisher.
“Don’t tell anyone about that geek boy, or it’ll be lights out, I don’t care what Bob-bob says.” Waterboy nodded and faltered as Flambae took his wet hair down, wringing it out. “Stop fucking staring!” The theater door opened again and someone rushed out, but over their fleeting head the superhero could see Flambaes face held a playful smirk.
Somehow they ended up at Flambae's apartment, which led to them sitting in his office rolly chair. Or more accurately Waterboy in the chair and Flambae on top of him pressing chest to chest. Soft sighs fell from the superheroes mouth as his flame counterpart bit and nipped at his neck, definitely leaving marks. And ones that would graciously be hidden under his costume.
It felt like a cat fight, finger nails wickedly scratching against the revealed expanse of skin on his back, occasionally turning to soft brushes, his costume long forgotten. Waterboy carefully carded his hands in the other's hair, feeling the silky strands between each finger, noticing that some spots were still damp from the sprinklers.
He felt like he could get lost and stay there for a million years. Eyes closed, mouth turned into a stupid wide grin, if this was what team bonding time meant he could do it forever.
The chair groaned and protested under their combined weight.
Waterboy made a move to comment on it but was quickly silenced by a searing hot kiss on his mouth nearly knocking them out of the chair and to the floor. He felt hot hands hold the back of his head in an almost tender motion, if one hand wasn’t pulling at his hair.
Flambae drew back slowly a thin line of spit connecting them. His eyes half lidded, pupils blown wide, and his cheeks red from simple exertion. He raised the back of his hand and wiped the drool away. Steam billowed from where their bodies met, filling the air around them. Everything was so warm. The room, the air, the droplets of water falling from the heroes skin, it was nearly too much.
But Waterboy followed, leaning forward as far as his position could afford him to, pressing a chaste kiss to the centre of the other's exposed chest. It was his turn, he wanted to elicit the same reactions from the man on top of him.
If the chair wasn’t mad about the position they were in before then it sure is mad now. Gosh he hoped this is okay, he hopes he's doing it right. Thoughts rush back and forth in his head like a train with no brakes, absorbing him.
The ex-supervillian huffed a soft laugh at his inexperience, the hand in his hair loosened to stroke the top of his head. “Keep going.”
Who was Waterboy to deny him?
Robert's jaw nearly hits the floor as he sits down in the office for the morning briefing. The pair has already sat down, side by side and invested in some unknown conversation.
“Okay what the fuck happened? Yesterday you,” his accusing finger rested on Flambae. “Wouldn’t even entertain the idea of being in the same room with him, let alone sit down next to him.” Robert could see Waterboy beaming, his hands clasped together like a schoolgirl who got to bring home the class pet for the night.
The pair remained silent much to Roberts' dismay.
“Sure, alright keep your secrets.” He folded his hands and nodded his head to Waterboy “Did he give you any trouble? Any fights?” A quick shake of his head and a “No sir.” Was all the dispatcher needed before he sighed and slowly stalked to the door.
“Good, now get out of here, AND I better not have to call an ‘intervention’ again.” He held it open for the duo and watched suspiciously as they walked out in tandem.
Luckily his position at the door let him see a small mark on Flambae's shoulder near the bright orange stitching of his costume. “Hey wait, is that a…bite mark?” Something Waterboy had unfortunately neglected to mention to Flambae.
“Are you fucking serious you wet blanket!” Waterboy only smiled ecstatically as he was furiously shaken back and forth.
