Summary
Persi’s always known that she was different from the other children. The other children didn’t have sharp teeth or claws. The other children didn’t have scales or sometimes have webbed hands. The other children weren’t able to detect when someone was coming up behind them by the way their footsteps sounded, even if you were across the street. The other children couldn’t see the future or the past in their dreams or flashes of someone's fate when she looked at them. They weren’t able to hear the sound of someone’s breath from 30 feet away or smell their very scents from the same distance.
But Persi was okay with that. She didn’t need any of the other kids. They stayed away from her even if they couldn’t see her ever-changing eyes that could stare into your soul or her too-long fingers with claws instead of nails. But that was okay, she told herself, she had her Mom, she had her parents letters, she had her grandmother, and that was all she needed. Until it wasn't, She wasn't ready for the family she'd find, and the people ready to throw their hearts behind her.
But damn it all to Tartarus if she wasn't ready to fight tooth and nail to keep them close, to keep them safe. To love them back.
