The Graham Cracker Test

Summary:

Eddie is upset because life unfairly put Steve Harrington as a permanent fixture in his life post upside down bullshit. How is he supposed to get through the day if he's in love with the straightest boy this side of the Mississippi? Graham crackers is the answer. Or at least that's what Robin tells him.

Work Text:

'Life is so unfair sometimes' Eddie thinks as he unsuccessfully tries to shift his gaze. He doesn't mean the whole 'this town thinks I'm a satanic murder who killed Chrissy' unfair. He's already used to that. No, he means it's unfair that life would put him through all of the bullshit provided by the upside down and the now deader than dead Vecna, let him survive, & then be adopted into Steve Harrington's friend group. By Steve. The untouchable and so very hot straight jock that's been the star of Eddie's wildest (and wettest) dreams since Sophomore year. How is life going to make him survive the impossible and then taunt him by throwing Steve in as his new bff!?

Eddie, Steve, and Robin are currently stocking up for a movie night with the other older teens. Jonathon, Argyle, and Nancy are picking up the pizzas and beer while they get the snacks and movie. Eddie is pushing the cart while Robin rides in it, directing him through the aisles. Steve is just ahead, bent down to grab a box of Oreos, requested by Argyle. His jeans are hugging his ass *just* right and Eddie.. well he is just a man. A man who wants to sink his teeth into Steve's perfectly plump ass. As Eddie ponders taking a huge bite and how cruel life is to make him fall in lust and love with the straightest jock to ever live- Robin smacks him in the face with a roll of paper towels. "You look like you're planning on devouring Steve the way Argyle plans on going to town on the double stuff Oreo's later". She's smiling innocently but her eyes feel like daggers in Eddie's soul. He immediately scoffs at her. "Listen Birdy. I'm just a man.." he glances back over to Steve who is now helping a little old lady grab some crackers off the top shelf. "Have you SEEN his ass in those jeans? I know that's not on your radar but like come on!". Robin is barely keeping her composure as she watches Eddie's eyes drift back to Steve as he trades culinary tips with the sweet old lady. Eddie is so fucked. How can someone be so attractive AND basically a saint as well? Helping little old lady's at the grocery store, being the #1 babysitter for years on end, helping take care of Eddie as he recovered from the big bad!? How is he supposed to continue on pretending to not be in LOVE. Eddie is forcefully brought back to the present situation as Robin hits him with a box of graham crackers. "WTF Birdy? Why are you assaulting me with 1/3 of the ingredients for S'mores!?". Robin looks around and leans in towards Eddie "don't know why graham crackers were invented? To help suppress sexual urges". Eddie's eyes might actually bulge out of their sockets. "Yeah I know it sounds crazy but it's true! The creator, Sylvester Graham, believe a bland diet of whole grains could help to live a more moral life and reduce your sinning or something.. I think you may need to snack on these tonight unless you plan on finally telling Steve how you feel dingus #2". Eddie bursts into laughter "Birdy, where the FUCK did you learn that? And you know I can't say anything! I'm just going to make an assumption of myself and lose him. I rather pine and sulk than risk him leaving me behind. AND DONT TELL ME IM WRONG!" Eddie starts pacing around the cart and mimicking robins voice. "Oh Eddie you know Steve will handle it well. And how knows, it may work in your favor...". Robin grabs his wrist as he goes to circle her again and whisper shouts "HEY- I don't sound like that!!! But I do give great advice! So stop fighting me on this and man up or take the graham crackers!". Eddie chews on his lip and looks back over to Steve, his beautiful friend Steve who is now smiling at him and doing his little hand wave as he says goodbye to the old woman he was helping.

As Steve approaches Robin and Eddie, he tosses the double stuffed Oreos in the cart. "Sorry guys, Mrs Browne needed help and then she asked for my advice on how to perfect her casserole recipe, what did I miss?". Robin looks to Eddie with the BIGGEST smile in her face. Eddie grabs the graham crackers from her hand and tosses them into the cart. "Oh nothing big boy, are we ready to head back yet?". Steve looks between the two of them and the graham crackers. He shrugs as he says "nah I think we're done, let's go check out so we can set up and relax a bit before the rest of the gang gets there".

When they get back to the Harrington abode; they quickly work together to turn the living room into a comfy hangout zone for their movie night. Steve brings out the spare pillows and blankets, placing them on the couches and love seat. Robin sets out the snacks and drinks on the coffee table. Eddie gets the VCR set up and plays music off the stereo in the meantime. "Guys I'm gonna change into my comfy cozies, yall want anything of mine to wear?" Steve asks. "Dingus bring me your finest crewneck thanks!" Robin asks, knowing he'll bring her an old maroon one that's she's staked her claim to every time she's over. Steve looks over to Eddie who pretends to ponder what he wants, as is he also doesn't have a favorite sweatshirt. " I too will take my usual, thanks my liege" Eddie says as he bows. Steve slightly blushes and salutes the pair as he runs upstairs. When Steve comes back down with their sweaters, he's dressed in an emerald green long sleeve Henley that's a bit short on his torso and a pair of black joggers that leave nothing the imagination. Robin looks at him in disgust and is opening her mouth to comment but he throws the crewneck at her face to stop her as he approaches Eddie with his HS swim team hoodie. "Here ya go Eds! Fresh out the dryer so it's warm and smells good". Eddie's brain is short circuiting over how good Steve looks as well as how sweet he is over giving him a clean and warm hoodie. He wordlessly grabs the hoodie and pulls it over his wild hair. It smell like Steve and feels like he's being given a warm hug. Steve is staring at Eddie with a small but genuine smile as he reaches into his pocket and pulls out his glasses. He pushes his glasses onto his face "ah there we go! Now I can see. You look good in my hoodie Ed's. I mean like super comfy. Like I could just hug you because of how cuddly you look".

Steve is just word vomiting at this point and Eddie is about to do something stupid. Like kiss Steve until neither can breathe type
Of stupid. Eddie glances towards Robin who is throwing the packs of graham crackers on the table at this point. Eddie reaches around Steve to grab one and shoves it in his mouth. He's chewing hard and fast, shoving two more sheets of grahams into his mouth at the bewilderment of Robin and Steve. He makes grabby hands for a Yoo-hoo. Robin tosses him one and chugs half of it to get the crackers down. He wipes his mouth with the sleeve of the hoodie (sorry Stevie) and stares at them for a good 15 seconds before speaking.." yeah bucks that didn't help AT ALL".

It's silent again for an almost uncomfortable amount of time before the loudest laugh bursts out of Steve, startling them all out of the moment. Steve is leaning down on his knees trying to catch his breath. Eddie is about to ask what was so funny when Steve looks at Robin and goes "really robs? The graham cracker thing for him too?" Robin cackles as she stands to get off the couch. "Okay dingus 1 & 2, we've got another 15 minutes before the others arrive. I'm going to the kitchen until then. Be mindful of the time and your surroundings". She walks off and Eddie is staring at Steve with his big ol' Bambi eyes. Steve walks towards him and puts a hand on Eddie's waist. "Trying to suppress some..." *lowers his voice* "sexual urges there Munson?" with a smirk. Eddie groans and wipes a hand down his face as he whines "she told you that fun fact too!?". He leans forward and hides his face in the crook of Steve's neck and shoulder. Steve is giggling at this point and gently pushes Eddie forward to look at him. "Robs been force feeding me graham crackers right before we've met up to see you for the last two months. She says if I'm not going to act on my feelings she doesn't want to see me pine". Eddie feels his face turning redder by the second. His brain is obviously playing a trick on him. But as if Steve can read his mind, he is quick to reassure him. "I hope I'm not reading this wrong but I REALLY like you Ed's. I'm hoping this means you might feel the same way?".

Eddie grabs Steve's other hand and places it on his other side before wrapping his arms around Steve's neck and pulling him in close. Close enough their noses almost touch. "Oh Stevie. You don't even know the half of it. It's been YEARS of pining over you. And now that we've become friends? I'm down bad, big boy..."

Steve brushes their noses together and bites his lips before getting a look of determination in his eyes and slotting their mouths together. It's so soft and sweet at first. But Eddie know a better than to look a gift horse is the mouth and charges full speed ahead. He licks the seam of Steve's lips and is immediately granted accesses. Hands start roaming as tongues start mingling. Eddie suddenly feels himself being pushed backwards until he hits the wall with a light thump both him and steve are giggling as they start to intensify their make out session. Steve gets his hands under Eddie's ass to life and Eddie immediately gets with the program, wrapping his legs around Steve's waist.

They are completely oblivious to anything outside their little make out bubble that they don't hear the front door opening. They only break apart when they're startled by Argyle wolf whistling as Nancy, Jonathon, and Robin laugh in the doorway. Steve and Eddie are both glossy eyed as they stare at the group. Nancy raises an eyebrow at Robin as Jonathon walks past them, pizza in hand, smirking "I guess the graham crackers didn't work. Happy for you guys!" Nancy and Robin follow Jonathon to the kitchen. Argyle puts his arms around both their shoulders are the boys breake apart to to follow suite. With a wink Argyle walks with them to the kitchen. "That was pretty intense brochachos! Let's get some food in yall so you can refuel and pick back up later after the movie".

Eddie and Steve aren't even embarrassed. They're both so smitten they smile and agree with Argyle and join the others at the counter, filling up their plates and grabbing beer. As Steve tries to balance his food and drink while getting napkins, Eddie runs out into the living room and back. He has the graham crackers in hand and aggressively throws them in the trash. With the biggest smile he helps Steve bring out their dinner to the couches and get comfy. With a smile on his face and Steve leaning back on him, Eddie thinks maybe things are finally going his way and also vows to never eat another graham cracker ever again.
