Summary
Keegan’s specialty was never small talk. Spades’ specialty was never letting anyone get close. Together they are one part tactical nuisance, two parts sarcastic grief counselor, and approximately a thousand percent bad at being subtle about the fact that they’re trying very hard not to die alone.
After a mission goes sideways and Spades is taken, everything that used to be comfortable between them—trash-talking in the mess, stolen hoodies, the stupid, habit-forming way Keegan hums Telescope when the world gets too loud—becomes a lifeline. Command calls it “compromising behavior.” Redline calls it an interesting experiment. The Talons call it Tuesday. Keegan calls it a problem. Spades calls it everything they don’t want to admit out loud.
This is the story of two awful, brilliant people who argue like enemies, rescue like a team, and learn that trauma has a terrible bedside manner — but it also has a tendency to make you notice who’s standing at your six. There will be snark, there will be very bad plans, there will be one villain who speaks too lovingly about psychology, and there will be one song that keeps them both breathing. Mostly, there will be a lot of holding on.
