Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

A burst of fire and light.

Those were he last things Emerald saw as she was sent plunging into the darkness of the void.

Is this the end? She blearily thought at she fell further and further into the darkness. It was odd, there's do no dark substance, this isn't water or the Grimm pits of Salem's lair, she was just falling through shadow...or should be.

But instead of feeling the cold wind rush past her as she descended instead it was closer to being consumed by the darkness itself, the vast absence of light around her. She saw above her brief brighter flashes from the ongoing fight atop the path to Vacuo, the extra light becoming little more then a irregular twinkle the farther downwards she fell.

Heh, so I finally die right after I decide to switch sides...

The light grew dimmer and dimmer and dimmer still the further she fell as cold overtook her, she closed her eyes and moment before it would completely blink out of sight, if she has to die, then...she wants the last thing she saw to have been something other than the cold darkness, she'd gotten more than enough of that over the course of her life...

"Uuugh..." Emerald groaned as she sat up and blearily opened her eyes, that was a weird drea-

Then her mind got back into gear and she realized, that wasn't a dream. Then her vision focused and she noticed that she was in the middle of a forest...in her Solitas outfit....

"The hell....?" She asked herself getting up, checking revealed Thief's Respite at her side. Good, with how confused she is right now the risk drawing in Grimm certainly existed, better safe than sorry. Taking a deep breath she began scouting the area trying to figure out where in remnant her fall had dumped her.

As it soon turned out as she walked into the nearest town, a very familiar town...

It was Vale, it was actually Vale the city and capital of the kingdom and not the Grimm overrun battlefield she'd helped leave it as!

This...it didn't make any dammed sense!

She quickly activated her semblance and moved through the bustling streets unseen trying to figure put what the hell happened. Then she saw a newspaper on a stand, of more specifically? It's date.

She stared numbly at it for a time before she saw something on the periphery of her vision.

A short head of a familiar shade of green hair...

Oh hell...
