Work Text:
The remaining Eldar were preparing to depart from Middle Earth, however Elrond couldn’t stop thinking about those he was leaving behind. His children, and yet possibly one other. Maglor, the one who had raised him and his brother. He of course knew of the oath, and the consequences of breaking it, yet still he had a bit of hope. Hope that maybe if Maglor was still roaming the shores, that he’d come here. It was perhaps foolish to think such things, but who could blame him? Maglor was essentially his father, the man that raised him.
The ships were getting ready to depart now, so he boarded. They were finally sailing west, though it was never his home.
He had lingered towards the back of the ship, looking at the shore. Not sure whether he wanted to see someone or not, which would be worse? However Middle Earth soon passed out of view and he joined Galadriel and Mithrandir.
”Elrond, is something troubling you?” Galadriel asked, even though he was sure she already knew in some capacity.
“I was simply thinking about things.” He responded simply, a half answer.
”You were looking for him, weren’t you.“ It wasn’t a question, but a statement.
“Yes, I was.”
“You know as well as I, if he still roams, he was never likely to come.”
”Yes, I suppose it was foolish to think as much.”
That was the end of their conversation. There wasn’t much to say on the matter anyway, nothing he didn’t already know at least. She knew this.
Many moons had passed since that day they set out, the shores of Valinor now insight. The undying lands as beautiful as described in the tales of the exiles. On the shores all around Aqualondë and on the docks, there were countless elves waiting to greet their kin.
Once their ship docked, he waited patiently for Galadriel and the others before finally getting off himself. He was looking for his wife, Celebrian.
Suddenly, someone ran up to him and gripped him tightly. Looking at this person, it was none other than his dear wife. He held her as tight as he could without pain, and silently tears began falling.
They eventually separated the hug and she said to him,
”There are some waiting outside the city who’d like to see you.” A warm smile on her face as she held his hand and led him out of the city through the now waning crowd.
Past the gates there stood two men, one with wavy red hair, another with pin straight black hair. The red head was taller however, and had a complexion riddled with anxieties.
He instantly recognized them, Maedhros and Maglor.
”Maglor…?” He could feel tears start to form in his eyes again.
”Yes… I’m here for you.” They ran to each other and embraced in a hug.
”I was unsure of your fate. I thought you to still be wandering…” The thought still upset him.
”I did for many years, however I could not handle the torment anymore and cast myself into the sea. But that is not the point dear child, the point is you are home.” Maglor smiled warmly at him as they separated and he retook Celebrian’s hand.
”You’ve grown into yourself, Elrond.” Maedhros’ deep yet soothing voice was as calming as ever.
”It’s been a few thousand years after all.” He was so relaxed now. So calm, the best he’d felt in years.
It’s warm, the sun shining gently onto his family. His children may not be here yet, but he can still hope for atleast his sons. For the time being however he will enjoy the company of those he has once again.
