    Elrond and Celebrían are finally reunited in Valinor, but they are still haunted by their past, and by the awareness that they had lost Arwen forever. In an attempt to take control of her life again, Celebrían makes Elrond a proposal.

    And so, the bliss of their long-awaited encounter had soon faded into a monotonous, quiet coexistence, where they tried to give sense to their shared mourning. Of their daughter, first and foremost, but also of what had once forced her to flee from the shores of the Middle-earth, leaving behind all the ones she loved. For even after all those long centuries, for all the skills of the Valar and the soothing, lulling peace of Aman, a cruel seed of illness still laid deep within her, a clump of ice between her ribs, that never fully went away, forgotten in her happiest moments, but still lying under, ready to resurface.

    Nachdem Frodo und Sam gefangengenommen wurden, beschlossen die drei Träger der Elbenringe, Sauron ein letztes Mal herauszufordern. Was sonst sollten sie tun? In ihren Reichen auf ihren Untergang warten? Sie hatten nichts mehr zu verlieren.
    Und sie hatten versagt. Elrond, Gandalf und Galadriel hatten gemeinsam ihre Truppen verlassen, als klar wurde, das Sauron nicht persönlich erscheinen würde. Die Ringträger waren hinter die feindlichen Linien geschlüpft und waren nur wenige Meilen hinter dem schwarzen Tor auf Sauron gestoßen. Er hatte auf sie gewartet. Der Kampf war schnell und verzweifelt und am Ende lagen Galadriel und Gandalf am Boden, Nenya und Vanya in Saurons Hand. Elrond stand als einziger noch, aber auch er war erschöpft, müde. Müde vom kämpfen, müde von dem Schmerz, der ihm sein Leben lang zu folgen schien, müde vom Leben.
    “Gib mir Vilya.”
