    Summary

Valinor was every bit as beautiful as the songs promised.

Its streets glittered with the dust of diamonds, gleaming under the radiant light of a sun that shone brighter, purer over the hallowed lands than it ever had over Middle-earth. The peaks of the Pelori, soaring and snowcapped, loomed pristine in the distance, mocking her with every glimpse. These were not mountains that had ever known the tread of an orc's foot, nor suffered spilt blood or harrowed screams. Even the sands of Eldamar were white and silken underfoot, nothing like the abrading grit of the beaches of Belfalas where her mother had once reigned.

    Celebrían hated it.

    Summary

“I see and know everything whether I want to or not, because the universe hates me,” Grima explains. “Okay, so you two are finally getting married, thank the gods. That’s me! I’m a god. You’re welcome. So what kind of theme do you want to go for? And where are you going to live? Plegia’s pretty nice once you get used to the sand, the sand, and also the sand. Obviously I won’t complain about the occasional vacation to Ylisstol, since your... mountain vistas... aren’t half bad. Are you listening? Are you alive? Did I just break you?”

“I’m listening,” Chrom says weakly, his poor little brain struggling to keep up.

In which Grima is born into an existential crisis, accidentally nudges history the wrong way, and tries to make do in a world that is objectively more chaotic than he is.

    Summary

Why do so many in this fandom have such a fascination with Feanor and his sons? Why do these blatant criminals, warmongers, and thieves reliably draw admiration or even love from readers, clearly contrary to their creator's intent?

Part textual history of the stories of Feanor, his sons, his family, and his angelic enemies as their characters radically changed with Tolkien's increasingly rigid beliefs, part literary analysis, part raging against the gods, part questioning the glories of paradise, this aims to convince the reader that if Feanor the character is a villain, then Feanor the personification of man's rebellion against authority is not, even if Tolkien grew to believe he was. To be drawn to the Feanoreans in spite of Tolkien is to be drawn to Don Quixote in spite of his creator's attempt to bury the character, and with him an ideology.
