“Only got the one room left, I’m afraid,” says the older woman. “The storm, you see. It’s stranded a bunch of travelers just like yourselves.
“The one room will suit us perfectly,” Colin says with as much confidence as he can muster. He steps closer to Penelope, smiling at her as he holds a hand out for her to take, imploring her to play along with his eyes. “Don’t you agree, darling?”
For her part, Penelope looks a little stunned by the term of endearment, but she doesn’t miss a beat as she slips her hand into his.
“Yes. I believe it will, husband,” she replies.

Colin comes home from his travels early only to happen upon a stranded Penelope on his way to Aubrey Hall to reunite with his family for the holidays. Unfortunately, heavy snowfall forces the pair to stop for the night and seek shelter at an inn where *gasp* there was only one bed. -
