Work Text:
It was about four in the morning and toast with jam would be the thing to help Dan go back to sleep. Scratching his head, he softly started down the hall.
He paused at Phil's doorway. Phil did not wake. He stirred and let out a tiny sigh. Dan relaxed, slid to the floor as memories flowed back to him. Holding a friend's baby, newborn and dozing with the same tiny sigh - Phil too had been a baby. We are all former children….
Phil as a early talker, foreshadowing when he became an enthusiastic yapper.
Primary school Phil, leaping off a low wall, pretending to be a lion.
Teenage Phil, yearning to kiss a male friend but not doing it yet. Finding out years later the friend was a baby gay like him.
The young man Phil, at loose ends after advanced education, discovering that a movie camera and posting videos on the internet was a new way to express the creative art that he must do, editing and forgetting to eat or drink.
This intelligent, lovely, soft-hearted, sometimes deliberately annoying man, who chose to be with Dan through the beautiful times, the angry times, and the frightening times they shared together over the years.
Philly….Dan smiled as his heart warmed in his chest.
Phil flopped over and snored loudly. Dan startled. Yeah, he would remind Phil to see a doctor about that - there was treatment.
Dan remembered he was hungry and continued on to the kitchen where toast and jam was calling him.
