Chapter Text

■ / ■ – Sunny

I found Columbina flipping through my logbook. After I yelled at her for snooping in other people’s property without permission, I banished her from my room. She won’t stay away for long (she never does), but this gives me a little time. What I am writing now is the first entry in a wholly new notebook which I will hide within a compartment in Pulonia.

I don’t think Columbina got very far in her reading. The page she left off on was just some complaints about Dottore. I’m happy her attitudes toward him have been turning. I think it’s unlikely she read anything about her. My musings about Columbina are for no one’s eyes but mine, and especially not for Columbina’s. If she had found some of the things I’ve written, she might be brought to tears! Or might get the wrong sort of ideas.

Anyways, this new notebook will be reserved solely for my thoughts on that annoying moon goddess. I’m going to rip out all the pages that talk too liberally about her in my other notebooks and put them in the same receptacle. This way, I can be sure my secrets are safe.

Updated Pulonia’s sub-directives to include protecting this notebook from prying eyes.

I baked some apple cinnamon muffins for our weekly tea party. Arlecchino and Rosalyne both said very nice things. Columbina had nothing to say because her mouth was already full with a second muffin. I guess that’s a compliment enough, but I’d rather have her say something nice about my cooking as opposed to getting crumbs all over my tablecloth.

It's good I began this new secret logbook. Today Columbina asked if I ever wrote about her like how I had written about Dottore. I blithely assured her I wrote much worse things, to which her gaze only shifted to looking at my notebooks with clear curious intent. These writings will be safe, but I should still lock up my other logs better. Just because I’ve separated mentions of her from the rest of my observations doesn’t mean she gets to read everything else as she pleases.

How is she even able to read to begin with? I hadn’t considered that earlier, but the thought suddenly occurred. Her eyes were closed like always when she was reading my books the other day. As it turns out, she can run her fingers over text and get faint kuuvahki traces, much like braille for the blind. Does this mean invisible ink would be ineffective? Requires more research.

Columbina proves once again to have no comprehension of personal space nor propriety. I found her fast asleep in my bed again after returning from a night at my workshop. She looked too pathetic and small under my blankets for me to move her. Maybe if she gets her rest now, she won’t sleepily ask to be tucked in later today.

…It’s possible my ears glitched a little but I think Columbina might have murmured my name when I stepped on a creaky floorboard as I exited the bedroom. Maybe she was dreaming of me. I hope the Sandrone in her subconscious isn’t doing anything weird.

Ran audio input diagnostic. Operations normal.

■ / ■ – Overcast

Did not see Columbina at all today. Dottore probably has her doing all sorts of strange experiments. I should tell her she can use me as an excuse to get out of them if she ever needs. Arlecchino and Rosalyne would surely extend the same offer. I think I could also persuade Capitano if Columbina needs something to sound particularly serious.

Regardless, it was a quiet day.
