   Summary

   Meredith could feel the scream building in her lungs, her anger thrashing against the restraints she’d fastened around it. Her body shook slightly as she slammed her face back down against her pillow, the scream heating the fabric beneath her face as she released it.

   It had all been so fucking predictable, clear from the moment they met, she had been foolish to believe they had a chance at all. She still believed it, clutching any thread of hope that maybe, just maybe, she’d get her happy ending. Even if it was with the woman who was supposed to be her enemy.

   When the scream finally died and left her choking on air she turned onto her back, dragging in breaths of air until her breathing steadied, anger falling away into horrible, encompassing, overwhelming, grief.
