Work Text:

Mo Ran leaned against a lovely tree, the wind blew with ease, the soft sounds of crickets filled the night. He glanced down at the lake which sat next to him, the water slowly slid around, it was truly beautiful, especially with the moon shining down onto it.

Beautiful.. Just like a certain someone who Mo Ran treasured more than anything, Wanning... Yes Chu Wanning, his dear husband, whom he held close in the deepest of nights and the brightest of mornings.

I'm very lucky to have Chu Wanning, how in the world does he put up with me? How..How could he look at me the same. Taxain-Jun. That..That's not me anymore, theres a clear difference between us. I'm better to Wanning, I can treat him better. What difference is there!?

Mo Ran stood over his reflection, Taxain-Jun stared back at him, a stupid grin plastered over his pale face. "What's the difference hm?" Taxain-Jun chuckled, Mo Ran's expression twisted into horror as countless thoughts blinded his vision.

Wanning..I mistreated him in such a way throughout my past life yet I still dare to chase after him in this one?! I'm selfish and arrogant how..Why..Why does he still put up with someone as disgusting as me! I don't deserve to stand in the presence of him, I should have treated him with utmost care and respect...

I don't..deserve anything. Chu Wanning or anything within this world. As if bewitched, Mo Ran unsheathed his sword and pressed the trembling blade to his arm.

Sounds of skin tearing echoed through the land, Mo Ran's skin split open, revealing the smooth white flesh which grew underneath. Blood slowly filled his gaping wounds and slid down his arm, leaving raging red trails in their wake.

Mo Ran swallowed his worthless sobs, tears spilled down his face, his eyebrows furrowed in pain. He let out small sounds of struggle, much like the whimpers of a dog. The tears stung Mo Ran's eyes as they continued to fall. A bright red mess of lines, painted on his arm. Anyone would shriek from the sight of it.

A hand grabbed Mo Ran's shoulder and spun him around, Mo Ran barely had time to react, he shuffled his sleeve down as soon as he could. Chu Wanning stood in front of him, an expression of slight worry and confusion was etched onto his loveable face.

Chu Wanning extended his hand to wipe Mo Ran's tears, softly rubbing away the sorrow with his sleeve. Mo Ran's eyes were heavily fixated onto the floor, Chu Wanning couldn't help but become more worried by this. "What happe-" He intertwined his fingers with Mo Ran's, his eyes shot upwards as he grabbed Mo Ran's wrist instead.

Chu Wanning slid up Mo Ran's sleeve, which was already soaked thoroughly with a dark crimson. His voice trembled as he asked Mo Ran for some sort of explanation. "Mo Ran. " The expression on Chu Wanning's face was absolutely terrified with worry, he looked as if he were about to cry as well.

Within a few seconds, the wounds that were scattered across Mo Ran's arm had healed, Chu Wanning pulled Mo Ran into a tight embrace. "Mo Ran.. I love you so much don't do that ever again please, if something's bothering you I'm here for you." It was as if every word that escaped his mouth had to be squeezed out of his throat.

"I love you too.." Mo Ran lost himself in his beloved's eyes before returned the hug, their legs gave out as they held each other in their arms. The pair fell asleep next to the lovley tree, holding each other for eternity.
