    Shane had to bite back a gasp. He tried to keep his expression steady, fighting the pity that threatened to show on his face…. His eyes burned, wet with unshed tears, and he bit his lower lip as he gently brushed his fingers across Ilya’s cheeks, wiping away the still-flowing tears. Ilya silently sobbed and leaned into the touch as Shane cupped his cheek.

    Ilya’s breath stuttered under the touch.
