    Before he died, Palpatine had left behind one final gift for the Jedi. A gift so weak that they failed to notice it for several minutes before they saw it. Fox, on the brink of death, so badly injured that his survival was nothing short of a miracle.

    Except that his survival had been expected, anticipated in fact, as Rex and the others realised when Fox recovered physically quite quickly. That sadistic monster wanted him to live so that he could torment them with his empty, expressionless gaze, his unsettling silence and his quiet suffering. He had succeeded.
