hhhhhh this is wonderful. it feels like an incarnation of the characters, in all their three-dimensional, contradictory
gloryperson-ness, that the show never quite allowed for.this is the story i needed to read after the show finished eight years ago, but i'm so glad to have read it today. and i think my head is clearer now too, all the better to appreciate the incredible balance of betrayal, uncertainty, steadfastness, anger, distrust, hope, distance, civility, etc etc that is woven here. this is no fix-it. this follows five seasons of characters' selfish choices and self-righteous actions, of characters having their will, their lives stolen from them, of characters trying to make the most just sacrifices for the sake of their people (whoever their people happened to include) -- this follows through to the consequences and rocky aftermaths of it all. there is no fixing of that. there are no simple distillations of what each character's legacy was or will be. but there is finding footing again, and there is (eventually) the very tangible proof that really, not a single one of the prophesies was correct. there are moments of peace to be pieced together and grasped among the mess that's been chewed up and spat out, and each one of those moments is so cathartic to read.
