In an Octopus’s Garden With You

Summary:

Percy lost everyone. Kara lost everyone. Turns out, there is a really good solution to losing everyone you love…drinking! Alcoholism is only bad if you really think about it, and Percy wasn't planning on doing much of that. Not that the universe cared for his plans.

Chapter 1: He's a Real Nowhere Man

Notes:

This version of Supergirl is a mix of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and what we have seen of Gunn's Supergirl. Some New 52 Supergirl, too, but I haven't read her comics for New 52, but I am taking pieces from what I know. I also know Gunn's Supergirl is meant to be inspired by Supergirl: WoT. I disagree, but the movie isn't out, so who knows?

This version of DC is more of a DC au that uses Young Justice as a foreground—YJ is the continuity I am most familiar with and has some of my favorite characterizations.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

"You alive?" a girl called to Percy, nudging him with her foot.

His eyes flickered open, and he could see his breath float in the chilly air. He looked up at the person above him through the hazy mist. His face was cold, he realized. His warm breath felt nice.

"Yeah," Percy finally replied to the blonde girl. She wore a blue and red spandex outfit with a beige trench coat over it. It reminded him of those Marvel heroes he had seen as a kid.

Her hair was frazzled, snow flecking in it. She didn't seem bothered by the arctic chill.

"Cool," she said, losing interest. She began to walk—stumble—away, only to pause several steps out. She turned back. Her head lolled, and her face scrunched in confusion. "Humans can survive this?" she murmured. "Kal said they couldn't…"

Her face visibly flickered through several expressions. She had tired bags under her eyes, and Percy thought that she must be hungover or drunk or both. She groaned, turning around fully.

"Are you dying? I can't let you die," she said, seemingly convincing herself of that fact. She rubbed her forehead. "You're human, dude?"

Percy shrugged, the snow surrounding him shifting with the motion. "Opposed to what?"

"An alien?" the girl offered. "Shit, I don't know. There are those meta…meta-somethings. Look, dude, are you dying or what? Cause if you aren't, you're wasting my time."

Percy stared up at the sky. It was blue today. The sun was a bright, cheery yellow, and it warmly lit the girl's hair. He was pretty sure she didn't dye it.

"Alien?" Percy echoed. Well, he wasn't from this world, and he wasn't exactly human. "Something like that, Blondie," he agreed after a moment of consideration.

Something seemed to shift in the atmosphere. There was a flicker in her, almost like a dying fire that had gasoline poured on it.

Her eyes widened, and she shot forward, once more hovering over him. She leaned down, way too close. "Ya an-Kripton?!" she demanded, eager.

He stared at her blankly. "What?" he asked her in confusion, her words sounding like complete gibberish to him.

She visibly faltered, face falling as she took a step back. A frown marred her lips.

The fire went out.

"Of course not," she muttered darkly, looking away. She turned back to him, hesitant. "Or are you like Kal? Maybe you just don't know Suh Ankripton," she said to herself, looking over Percy.

Percy still had absolutely no idea what she was talking about.

The girl stared at the snow, a lost look on her face. She shook her head, turning around. "You're not Kryptonian, are you?" she asked softly. She stumbled, falling flat on her face. Groaning, she pushed herself up. "Damn snow," she mumbled.

'She looks sad,' Percy thought, feeling something weird in his chest. It was like he had swallowed a ball of lead.

Pathetic, more like. She looked as if she had been utterly defeated by life. She had a weary, tired feel to her.

Relatable.

She fully got to her feet, brushing snow off of her skirt and legs. "Right. Anyways, have fun. I'm going to…leave." She glanced back, seemingly remembering something. "If you see a large, white building, don't go there. Or do."

She walked away, waving.

"Really? You're still here?" a girl's voice asked, nudging him with her foot. Once more, Percy opened his eyes.

It was the same girl, of course.

"It's comfy," Percy offered, voice hoarse from disuse. He tried for a wry grin, but he probably looked more like a crackhead. He spread his arms out, making a snow angel.

"Uh-huh…" she skeptically agreed, tilting her head as she looked down at him. She shrugged, spun around, and fell back into the snow next to him. She went quiet.

The snow gently fell onto their faces, and all he could hear was the whooshing of wind.

She broke the silence. "I'm Kara," she said.

"Percy," he replied. It was the polite thing to do, right?

He shouldn't forget his manners. His mom wouldn't approve. That alone was reason enough to be polite.

Percy thought of something to say. "The sun is nice today," he offered.

"Is it?" Kara asked. There was a wistful tint to her voice.

Damn. That must be a record. He had said something wrong already. Good going, Jackson. How was he supposed to know that talking about the sun would make her sad?

"What are you doing out here?" Percy asked the alien. Was his life truly so odd that he didn't find the existence of aliens to be startling? He supposed so. "In the snow," he clarified.

"Whatever you're doing," she said, the melancholy in her voice fading. "Why are we out here?"

Percy snorted. What a non-answer. She had secrets to keep, he guessed. That was fine. Maybe she was here to invade the planet? He would leave Miss Invader Zim to it.

"I'm resting," he told her, his throat slightly uncomfortable. "I've been resting for…a while."

What an understatement.

He cleared his throat. Most of the talking he had done these past few years had been to stave off loneliness. He felt like he was starring in Cast Away some days. He, too, could use a Wilson the Volleyball.

"Must've been a long time," she concluded.

"I move a little," Percy said instead. "Gotta get my cardio in, you know? I think I chose this spot a few weeks ago. I was further north before that."

"Cardio?" she echoed. "I don't need that whole exercise thing."

She looked pretty fit. Kara was in very good shape, from what he could tell. How could she be fit without exercising?

Ah.

"Right, alien," Percy said wisely.

Kara snorted. "Says you," she shot back accusingly. "Didn't you say you're an alien? Unless you were fat before, you don't need to eat."

"I eat the snow," he dryly told her, fighting a grin.

Kara hummed, seemingly accepting that answer.

Truly, what was his life?

"What species are you?" she asked.

Percy considered coming up with some sort of lie. Then he remembered that he had literally no reason to lie.

"Half human, half god," he said, grinning when he heard her snort.

"Of course, and you're also a quarter humble." There was a warmth to her voice that wasn't there before. "How are you an alien, then?"

Percy's smile fell immediately. His eyes wandered across the sky. He blew air from his mouth, idly watching his condensed breath.

"Because I'm from a different Earth." His chest felt heavy. "Mine isn't around anymore," he murmured, muscles weak. "I'm all that's left."

And it was his fault.

"Oh," Kara whispered. "Oh." With a small grunt, she pushed herself off of the ground. She looked down at him. "I get it."

Then, she reached a hand down to pick him up. He stared at her hand. He looked into her eyes. Her tired, weary eyes. Even through her warmth, he could see it. She was drifting.

He believed her.

She was like him.

He reached his hand up and grasped hers, letting her pull him up. With unexpected strength, she hoisted him to his feet.

They stared at each other, hands still connected. She had a firm grip on him that she just kept tightening. When he never flinched and his bones never cracked, a brief flicker of surprise flashed through her eyes.

She let go.

"Do you want to drink?" Kara asked him.

"Alcohol?" Percy replied. He had never really drank before. It wasn't out of disinterest, really, but inability.

Kara rolled her eyes. "Duh. Why would I ask if you want to drink water?"

"Alien culture?" he offered wearily, tiredly smiling at her. "I've never drank before."

Kara blinked. "Really?" She tilted her head. "How old are you?"

"Er…" Percy dumbly looked at her. "What is the date?"

Kara looked at him dumbly. "It's…" She seemed to be wracking her brain for an answer. "Uh…" Her eyes lit up. "September 18th. Right. I turn twenty one soon."

"Year?"

It took them another couple of minutes to figure out what year it was. It was 2015. He was a month older than her, and he had apparently turned twenty one a month ago.

"Let's go," Kara said, turning on her heel and marching in a random direction. She stopped. "Oh, shoot, I need to call Krypto."

"Krypto?" he asked.

Kara didn't answer. She puckered her lips and whistled, the sound at a very high pitched frequency. From out in the distance, the snow kicked up in a flurry, reminiscent of an avalanche. Then, a blur zoomed right past Kara, slamming straight into his chest and sending him flying on to his back.

Percy groaned as he slid across the ground, leaving a deep trench in the snow. There was a fluffy white animal on his chest, pouncing on top of him and wildly shaking him by his collar.

Then, the dog began to lick his face, making Percy scrunch his nose and try to cover himself.

"Krypto! Krypto stop," Kara called, not sounding that urgent. She was clearly holding back laughter as he was mauled.

The dog stopped, standing on his chest and tilting its head. It then bolted at Kara, doing the same exact routine to her. It slammed her to the ground, wildly licking her face and thrashing her around.

"Hey, buddy!" Kara happily said, giggling with a warm light in her eyes. It was the happiest he had seen her so far. She scratched behind its ears, hugging and petting it. "I just saw you a minute ago! Don't attack Percy, he's going to be with us from now on, alright?"

The dog didn't seem to care about her words. Krypto kept harrying her with attention that Kara happily reciprocated.

Percy pried himself out of the Percy-shaped hole in the ground. He groaned, stretching. Thank the gods for the Curse of Achilles.

He walked over to the two and knelt next to Krypto, scratching the dog behind the ear. It seemed to like the attention, kicking its leg happily.

"Well-behaved dog," Percy sarcastically said, still petting Krypto.

"Right?" Kara agreed, hugging the mongrel. "He likes you," Kara said, holding eye contact with Krypto. "Right, Krypto?" The dog barked. Kara smiled brightly. She stood up and beckoned him. "C'mon." Then, she paused. "You can fly, right?"

Percy gave the dog one more look before turning back to Kara. "Not that I know of," he said, shrugging. He could probably figure it out, but he and the sky weren't the best of friends.

"Ugh, lame," Kara said, walking over to him. She handily picked him up in a firefighter hold. "Now we can go to my ship."

He needed to figure out how to fly.

Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship—okay, maybe not. Percy never, in his life, expected to travel through space.

His life was more…

Sea: the final frontier. These are the recollections of the fates bullying a poor shmuck.

Yeah, that sounded about right. Except…that was no longer his life. Now, he was on a cramped spaceship with a superhero and a superdog. He had gone from low fantasy to science fantasy, somehow.

Magic and heroes and aliens and gods and more existed back on this Earth. That's what Kara told him, at least. He didn't really care for it. Kara didn't seem to care for it, either.

Kara was a superhero. A bona fide superhero. In name only, at least. Apparently, she spent most of her time drinking. She tried the whole superhero business when she turned eighteen. Then, she realized she liked drinking more (or that she couldn't handle it).

Percy thought it was more likely that she just hated her life. He could relate. He knew what he was experiencing. He had seen it in other campers, after all. He was stuck in the past. Kara was, too.

Drinking their issues away seemed like the worst thing to do, logically.

Percy didn't care.

Right now, they were on a two day trip to the planet Acheron. It had a red sun. Kara needs a red sun to get drunk, apparently.

By the end of day one, he had noticed an issue. Kara should've noticed it before they took off, but, well…

"Where am I going to sleep?" he asked Kara, looking around the cramped, tiny interior of the ship they were in. It was clearly built for one person, not two people plus a dog.

Kara was on the bed at the moment, Krypto snoozing with his head on her lap. Percy had taken a seat across from her, having pulled up a chair

She blinked, looking around the room. She glanced at the floor. "The ground?" she offered. "If you could sleep on the snow, wouldn't this, like, also work?"

Percy grimaced.

"Yeah, if I want to constantly wake up with back pain," he shot back. "Don't you have a couch or something?"

Kara shook her head. "You know, that would be a good idea for the future," she said, humming. "Nope, no couch. I'm not sleeping on the ground."

"Where does Krypto sleep?" he asked. "The ground?"

"Hell no," Kara said, looking offended. "Krypto gets to sleep in my bed." She scratched the dog's ear. "Isn't that right?"

Krypto continued to snooze.

Percy sighed. "Do you have extra blankets, at least?"

Kara blanked. She opened her mouth. She glanced around her room. She closed her mouth. She frowned. She blanked again.

"Shit," Kara muttered. "No." She narrowed her eyes on Percy in consideration. She looked down at Krypto. "C'mon, buddy. Scoot over a little."

Krypto did not want to move. After several seconds of nudging, the dog finally scooted over, making room on her bed.

"We're going to share the bed?" Percy asked, mildly surprised.

"Duh," Kara said, rolling her eyes. "It's that or the ground. Come up here," she said, beckoning him over.

Percy didn't move.

He opened his mouth hesitantly. "I don't want to make you, you know, uncomfortable or anything," he awkwardly said. "I can sleep on the ground if it's better for you."

Kara shook her head, laying down in her bed. "I told you to come up here, didn't I?"

She didn't say anything else. That was all there was to her words. Percy looked at her face, eyes trailing over her cheeks and eyes.

He could see how a woman like her was a hero.

He stood, walked over to the bed, and laid down. They went to sleep. It was cramped, of course. Two people and a dog could barely fit on her small bed.

The journey didn't take much longer, though. Another day passed like this. He got to know Kara more and more. She got to know him more and more. It was nice. He missed things like this. It had been so long since he had had a friend.

He felt that it was the same for Kara, too.

They never really talked about things that mattered. They both knew that going into their backgrounds would just make things miserable for the both of them. Instead, he learned that Krypto was her best friend, her red skirt was the epitome of fashion, and that she had all sorts of powers.

Percy used to think that he was somewhat strong. She was power. Invincible, strong, and fast. She could fly and shoot lasers. It made him feel a bit lame in comparison.

When they got into the range of the red sun near Acheron, however, she stopped being so strong. Instead, she had grabbed a sword, placed it at her side, and the two of them went out drinking.

"I bet you can't drink more than me," Kara challenged, grinning at him as they sat at a table in a pub.

There were two shot glasses at their table and a bottle of something. The mystery liquid looked terrifying. It was black, for one. When the bottle was shaken, it moved slower than he'd like. Alcohol should not be that viscous.

He looked away. It was terrible to look at. He instead glanced around the room. Basically everyone was wearing either green or red. They looked like jerseys, actually. Some sport was being shown on the several tv-like devices on the walls.

He had no clue what the sport was. He tore his gaze away.

Percy looked at the bottle like it was poison. "What even is this?" he asked her.

"Quiblemash," Kara said, pouring both of them a shot. It poured into the glasses like a thin oil. "It's eighty percent alcohol and twenty percent something else."

"Something else?"

Kara waved her hand. "Don't be a baby, Percy." She shot him a challenging look. "So, think you can drink more than me?"

Probably not.

"You're on," Percy shot back, grabbing his glass, tilting his head back, and downing the liquid. It was slightly thicker than water, so it caught onto his tongue, forcing him to taste the nasty, bitter liquid.

He gagged. However, momma raised no bitch. He forced it down…only to see Kara already on her second shot.

Percy gaped at her. Then, he forced himself to drink. He poured himself a glass and quickly downed it. Then another. And another.

He and Kara were downing shots so fast that they had to practically fight over the bottle. One then five then seven and then…

"It's empty," Kara groaned, tapping the mouth of the bottle against her shot glass. She looked funny, though. She was all spinny and stuff. "N-nine shot—shots. H-how many…you had l-less. I—"

Percy leaned back in his seat. He nearly tipped over, and he had to grip the table to avoid falling to the ground.

Kara snickered.

"S-seven shots," he groaned, his stomach about to wage a revolt and write a new constitution.

His head lolled. He squinted at Kara.

She was really pretty. Long—long blonde hair. Like Anna…Anna…her. That girl. Yeah. The one. Kara had a sexy figure. She was hot.

He forced a grin, wanting to puke. "You're o-on, Kar—you. Blondie. Another—another. Yeah."

"Yea-ah!" Kara drunkenly agreed, standing on wobbly feet. "Ima drink your ass und-der."

"Fuck—fuck that." Percy got up quickly, ready to prove her wrong…only to topple over on his chair, spilling onto the ground. He groaned as people stared at them.

"Nothin—nothing to see here!" Percy yelled, getting up, walking into Kara, who stumbled back, hitting a table.

"Oi!" one of the men sitting at the table said.

They look like—heh. Like, um. Biker people. Gangs? Biker gangs! Gangsters. But more, um, alien-y. They were sorta…blue? Can he say that? He has a space friend. It's fine.

"Heya," Kara said in return, turning around, stumbling back into Percy. One of the men gripped something. A weapon? Kara tilted her head. "I wouldn't—wouldn't recommend doing th-that."

That seemed to annoy the blue man more.

He looked very blue. What a blue fellow. Maybe he lives in a blue world. All day and all night and everything he sees is blue, like him, inside and outside.

He was so drunk.

Wait. No. He couldn't—couldn't be. He had to outdrink Kara. Fuck. She's pretty. Prettier than…than Ann—um—Anna—Annie? Maybe.

He didn't like thinking about her.

"You spilled our drinks," the man said instead. "Either you pay up or—"

Honestly, Percy stopped listening. He didn't really care about what they were saying. Blue dude could stuff it.

He grabbed Kara's hand. "Another. Right? Unless—less you, um, give…give up?"

Kara quickly stopped focusing on the blue dude. "H-hell no," she exclaimed. "You're going d-down."

"Mmm—n-nope," Percy said, stumbling over his words.

Blue guy seemed offended. He took out his stabby thingie. Knife? Sword? It was a weapon, probably. Did people use knives in pubs for other—other reasons?

Percy didn't think so. He reacted before his brain could do thinking stuff. He walked forward and smacked the blade out of Bluey's hand.

"Fucker!" Bluey hissed, throwing a punch forward. Percy took the punch. Bluey's fingers didn't work anymore.

Kara turned around and punched Blue's Clues at full might. She was weak right—right now. Red sun stuff. Still, Bluey toppled over.

His blue mates were a bit blue about Bluey becoming black and blue. They scrambled out of their seats, yelling and cursing at Percy and his new best friend Kara. Best bud Kara dodged a punch from one of the three guys, slamming her heel into his foot.

Blue two hissed, moving back.

Percy stumbled forward and smacked the shit out of Blue three. He turned to glare at Blue four. A punch hit him. It wasn't effective. Then he used his super cool demigod strength to smack a bitch and then Blue four was sent flying across the bar.

Kara and he looked over. So did Blue one, two, and three. Everything went quiet as Blue four sprawled on a broken table, wasted.

A knife could cut the air with how thick the tension was.

Then, a noise broke through the quiet room. "Ooh! A nasty tackle from Yacaglon! What's this? Play on? Mackenglies isn't moving! The ref is saying it was all—" the tv-device thing called out.

Immediately, heads snapped to the tv-thing, and angry shouts filled the room. "Rigged—Deserved—Yacaglon is a bunch of fucking—Mackenglies is a lying pisser who—"

Someone got punched. Madness broke out.

The pub became a flurry of motion, everyone wanting to get their piece of flesh. Heh. Piece of flesh. He couldn't be cut. Gotta—gotta be better than that, fuckers, he thought as a knife hit him in the back of the head.

Even he couldn't cut himself. He snickered, shielding Kara.

She grabbed one of the Blue Bros' drinks from the table. She downed it. "Ten!" she boasted. She tried to grab another drink, but Percy smacked her hand away, still taking stray blows going for her.

He downed a glass.

Ooh. That was sweet.

As he kept snatching the rest of the drinks off of the table, he casually blocked any stray strikes going for Kara.

"Wanna—wanna find another…another pub?" he asked her, vision swimming like fishies. He downed a drink. "Twelve!"

Kara blinked, punching a guy who tried to punch her. Obviously Percy blocked the dude's punch first. He wasn't a blue dude. He was a green guy. Bug bloke. Was that racist…um…buggist? Did they go by insects?

Insect…guys?

"Wh-what?" Kara stumbled over her words. "The fun—fun is here, b-bitch!" Kara crowed, tripping into Percy's chest. She stumbled against him, turned around, smacked one of the many people fighting, and tripped again.

"Had-Hades yeah!" Percy cheered back, his wits long gone. He kicked a guy running at another guy, cause why not?

Using his powers, he did a cool Jedi move and summoned over a bottle on an empty table.

"D-don't st-steal," Kara called back, punching someone. With her hand—the left one? Or was it the right one?—she grabbed a bottle from a table and started downing it. He downed his own bottle.

Drinking is awesome.

"Y-you stole!" he shot back.

He watched the pub get ruined by fighting. Everyone seemed to be avoiding him and Kara now. That didn't stop the people from beating the piss out of each other.

"Nuh-uh!" she said, stealing another drink from a table, just as he borrowed a glass. "I'm jus—just not letting it go…go to waste!"

The next minute…um…ten minutes? Hour? How…how long had it been?

The past…time…went by like a whoosh and blur. Stuff happened. Like fighting stuff. He whooped a lot of butts. Kara did, too. Then—then they were kicked out. Apparently you can't, can't do that.

Break pubs. Not allowed. It was fun. They didn't kill anybody? He thinks. They just drank a lot. Lots and lots. He was on, um, forty? Forty. Yeah. He totally had more. Yup.

He and Kara stumbled through the streets of the one city they were in on that one planet they were on under the red sun. They were super duper drunk.

"How—how many?" he asked her, leaning against Kara. Kara was leaning against a wall.

Mom. She said to, uh, always have the girl walk away from the road. Good…good manners, or something.

"Like, like thirty-eight," she groaned out, pressed against the wall.

"Forty!" he immediately said, grinning. "Ha! I out—out drank you!"

Kara glared. "You cheated. You can't—can't take alcohol out of my hand, b-bitch!"

"Did!" he said, rubbing it in her face. He swayed, leaning in close to her. "Wanna—um. Happy birth—birthday."

He fell on his face.

"L-lightweight!" Kara taunted, slurring.

He tugged her leg, and she yelped, falling right onto him. He rolled over so he could at least see her very nice face.

"Kiss?" he asked, not knowing what language he was speaking. Words came from his mouth. English, or something. English. English. Heh. What a funny word.

English.

"Kiss," Kara agreed. It made sense. She was hot. He was hot. Was he? He felt like he was hot right now. Sober Percy would disagree.

Sober Percy is lame. He likes drunk Percy more.

She hot. He hot.

They kissed on the ground in the middle of a sidewalk on a random planet in a system that no one knows.

Truly, he had never been happier.

Percy groaned, his head pounding. Where in the world was he?

He opened his eyes. Everything was blurry. The ground beneath him was hard. There was a weight on his chest. He stared at the sky, which was a shade of purple.

He could see people walking around him.

Kara groaned, shifting on his chest as she woke up. She blinked her eyes slowly, and then she fully opened them. Her gaze was slightly hazy.

"What happened?" Percy asked, brain feeling like mush.

Kara groaned, letting her face fall against his chest. "We're hungover," she mumbled into his chest.

Right. They had gone drinking. Then there had been a brawl…and then he couldn't remember anything else.

Kara pulled her head back up. She squinted. "Your mouth is covered in lipstick," she noted. She tiredly laughed. "I guess you had fun kissing some random alien girl?"

Percy blanked. He had kissed someone? He didn't have any memory of that. Then again, he didn't remember much of last night.

Kara then froze. She touched her lips and then touched the lipstick on his face.

"Shit," she mumbled. "I'm the random alien girl."

He stared at her.

She stared at him.

"The—the pub," Kara quickly said, clearing her throat. "We should go help clean it up."

Percy stared at her, still trying to wrap his brain around everything. He felt like he was moving through syrup. Everything ached.

"Why?" he asked.

Kara frowned. "Because we can," she slowly said, as if speaking took most of her energy.

Percy nodded, struggling to his feet. Given the fact he was hungover and had to pick up Kara at the same time, he was pretty proud of his ability to get up.

Kara's forehead scrunched. "What are you doing?"

Percy shrugged. He was too tired to talk. He wanted to get in some water—oh. Right. He had powers.

He stretched out his senses, looking for water. His brain hated him for doing that. He also couldn't sense any water. He went for the next best thing, condensing the humidity in the air into liquid water. Then, he drank it.

He immediately felt better. Not perfect, of course, but better. His hangover went away, at least.

"We look like a homeless couple," Percy joked, walking towards where the pub had been. He hoped he could find it. "A pair of bums."

Kara blew air from her mouth, tiredly smiling. "People can judge. We're still…cooler," she mumbled. "Homes are overrated."

Percy amusedly shook his head.

He walked through the streets, ignoring the judging looks of the native population. He and Kara idly talked, ignoring the elephant in the street. He didn't know what to think about it, kissing her.

Percy had no memory of it, of course.

Still, he had just met her. He could hardly say he was in love with her or anything. Besides, he still didn't know if he was over Annabeth.

They had never dated, but…there had been something between them. It had also been five years. She was dead. She died before they had even had the chance to date.

Moving on should be easy. Five years was a very long time. It was even longer when you were alone for all of that time.

Kara was pretty, of course. She also looked a lot like Annabeth, even if she also looked very different from Annabeth. They were very different people, too.

Why was he even thinking about this?

'Stop being stupid, Percy.'

They arrived at the pub, and he set Kara on the ground. She stumbled against him. The place was a mess. Tables overturned, puke on the ground, glasses broken, and was that blood?

There was some blood, yeah.

It looked terrible here. He felt bad. They had really made the owner's life worse because they were a little bit too drunk.

He glanced over at Kara. She also looked sad.

They stepped inside, and there was one single guy cleaning it up. He looked old, but Percy didn't know what old looked like in this species.

He was gray and mostly human-looking. His eyes were larger than a human's, and he had no nose. Wrinkles lined his face.

As they entered, the man tiredly turned back. His eyes widened, and he furiously glared at them.

"You! You two, I don't want to see you anywhere near here again! Do you see what you've done? My business is ruined! Get out, get out!" the old man spat out, furious. "I should—"

"We're here to help," Kara quietly cut in.

The man froze. "What?"

"To clean up," Kara clarified softly, still standing on shaky legs.

And so they did. It took only an hour or so to do. Percy's powers helped out immensely. Kara didn't have her powers right now, but she still had two hands and working legs.

It didn't take very long for the pub to once more become squeaky clean. The tables were back in place, the smell of puke was gone, and they had, at least, somewhat made up for their drunken misadventures.

Notes:

Leave a comment and kudos if you liked it or want more, it'd make my day.

Anywho, this story is going to be a mix of Percy and Kara's drunken adventures, romance, healing, and Earth stuff. For Kara's characterization, I am trying to keep that 'party-girl' feel Gunn is giving her, but I still want to make her fundamentally good—just like in WoT.

I have some concepts of an actual plot in the back of my head, but I just want to write one of my favorite book characters and one of my favorite superheroes, tbh.

The title comes from the song Octopus's Garden by the Beatles. It is by Ringo, and he made it while feeling lonely and like an outcast, as if he didn't fit in. He wanted to go to an Octopus's Garden under the sea to just be free, kinda. To me, it makes sense. Kara wants to go under the sea—space or Percy—to have fun and be free. Percy, the octopus, is a tag along. I might change the title, but I like it. The other option was a line from a Kinks song.
