The Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, December 24, 2017
Geto Suguru slid to the ground. The only thing keeping the slowly creeping, unbearable cold at bay was the warmth radiating from his bloodied shoulder.
Yet despite the blood obscuring his eye, he smiled in recognition. “You’re late again, as usual… Satoru.”
Gojo Satoru’s gaze held no warmth as he approached. “The ones in Kyoto, they were under your command?”
“Yes, they all were,” he smiled through gritted teeth, “no matter what anyone tells you, I hate those monkeys.”
Gojo’s eyes hardened.
“But” Geto exhaled, “I never held any hatred for those at Jujutsu Tech.” I hope you can find some solace in this, Satoru.
After all, some of his happiest memories were during those times. Riding a bike together in the countryside, completing missions in the early days, they spent eons laying on the grass, as spring soon morphed into summer.
“Suguru?” Gojo had murmured.
“Yes?”
“I want us to remain as we are now for a long time.”
“I promise,” Geto had said without a second thought.
Gojo had grinned and looped their pinkies together in a promise.
Now an unfathomable distance stood between him and the other Special Grade. Now you hate me, Geto thought.
“To think you’d be the one here at my end,” I wouldn’t have it any other way. There is just one thing left I need to be certain of before I go. “Are you going to make sure my family is safe?”
“Every last one of them managed to escape to safety.”
I’m glad. Then I can die happy.
Geto’s head dropped. The lull of the cold lapped up against his skull.
“Suguru.” Gojo’s voice pulled him back in, “Tell me, do you have any last words?”
“ I didn’t think I had any of that left in me, after everything.” I wish it didn’t have to be like this. But at the same time…I’m glad it’s you.
Gojo crouched,“ You are my best friend.” Those familiar blue eyes shone in a way Geto had never seen before.
“ …My one and only.”
Geto’s heart fell inside his chest.
He gathered himself up and grinned. “At least curse me in the end.”
He closed his eyes. Satoru, how could you say that?
There was a blistering warmth.
And then there was nothing.
