There’s no need. Izuku believes in karma, and based on the way All Might’s going, based on the way he’s clearly too foolish to manage his time appropriately and too foolish to take care of himself and too foolish to retire...
It’s only a matter of time before karma comes around for that man. It was humorous that All Might had the nerve to tell him to be realistic when he wasn’t being realistic about his own limitations. Izuku didn’t think he was going to be the next number one hero. Izuku only wanted to be a hero that put people at ease, and he didn’t think that was something that was too extreme. The only thing All Might was on a path towards was putting himself in a grave.
Fucking idiot.
Izuku would show him realistic.

Izuku sprints for the gate as soon as Present Mic’s given the go ahead and he almost immediately runs headlong into a one-pointer. He has no weapon but his hands and his wits. That’s okay. Izuku’s good at thinking on the fly. Lips curling into a feral grin, Izuku leaps forward, arms curling around the robot’s ‘head’ in a mockery of a chokehold and pulling, while his legs press the robot into ground. Izuku can feel his palms catching on sharp machinery as he finally tears the head free.
That’s something he’ll take care of properly later. Right now, it’s not what matters ———

No one cheers. Izuku would like to, but he knows better than to draw attention to himself and his stupid knotted tie he couldn’t figure out no matter how many HeroTube guides he watched. And anyway, he’s tired from last night. He should probably shorten his patrols... but who is he kidding? Midoriya Izuku has always been an overachiever.
And besides... when running through databases last night he’d found a lot of interesting leads last night. He knew was about to stick his nose into something he really, really shouldn’t, but Izuku always had been a curious one. He’d always had that urge to help. He never could stop himself. And rumors of Trigger on the street was never a good thing. If he could find out about the source and deliver the info to the right authorities... it was only a good thing.
He just had to avoid getting caught by said authorities, avoid getting caught by the perpetrators, avoid getting caught by his mother, and well, literally anyone.
Easier said than done, but when has anything ever been easy for Izuku?

He’s got two pairs — one for his perfectly legal — because no one can prove anything, thank you very much — late night excursions that he dunked in black RIT dye before he modified them, and his bright red day pair with the same modifications. He could have tried to disguise what they were, but UA and his teachers and his peers and his neighbors all already knew that he was quirkless, he was Deku, and there was no point in trying to play games with them. It was better to fit in with others like him, just in case.
It was so, so satisfying, to modify them into weapons like this, Izuku had to admit.
The sign of the quirkless, a sign of weakness, and Izuku had turned them into something that would pass for support gear.

“—seems to be a reflective-type Quirk of some sort, a great match up against Kacchan. It’s too bad Kacchan’s not more of a team player; he might be in real trouble again Shield Girl and Floaty Nice Girl... they seem to have some sort of plan.” One of Kacchan’s explosions rockets off of Shield Girl’s Quirk. “Wow! It’s almost like a mirror; it seems to strengthen the explosions a bit! But Shield Girl seems to be getting tired, and Kacchan’s Quirk gets stronger the longer he goes on, the more he gets to build up his nitroglycerin sweat. So Shield Girl must have a limit, and it seems like she’s... not... aware...”
And Izuku’s suddenly very aware of his audience.
All Might’s watching him with greedy, greedy eyes. The rest of the class seems vaguely unsettled.

Hizashi arrives at home around 6 PM to Shouta, his brilliant, perfect husband setting up the table for a dinner for four, ladling out curry and rice from containers from that place that he likes, a platter of chicken katsu in the middle of the table and a nice assortment of sides. There’s shopping bags on the counter containing Nemuri’s wine and Tensei’s beer and grapefruit juice and two bottles of the vodka that both of them like that mixes good with pretty much everything with melon sodas and strawberry sodas for Hizashi to mix it in and gross cranberry juice for Shouta.
He throws his arms around Shouta as soon as his lovely husband’s set down the food.
“Ahh, Shouta, you know just how to treat a man at the end of a long day!” Hizashi coos, pressing a wet kiss to Shouta’s cheek.

All Might stood outside Izuku’s homeroom door, and though he was smiling like always, it was not a smile of joy — he looked ashamed, embarrassed. Izuku knew that look because it was one he was often forced to wear at Aldera, or at home, while his mother scolded him. Yes, Izuku could recognize embarrassment from a mile away, knew shame the same way one knew an old lover.
“Present Mic, could I steal Young Midoriya away for a moment?” All Might requests.
The room ignites in whispers, because of course it does — what could All Might possibly want with the Quirkless Gen Ed boy? Izuku sighs, resigned. He doesn’t know what All Might wants, but whatever it is doesn’t matter — either Izuku will find a way to twist it to his benefit or not, but he can’t say no, and the gossip mill will turn no matter what Izuku does.
“No, you can’t just ‘steal’ any of my students; I’ll come with you. Let me get Kayama-sensei to cover real quick; she’s got a free period right now.” Yamada-sensei replies, and he’s actually scowling at All Might.

I also want to apologize for the inappropriate remarks made about your Quirk status by my classmate, Mineta. As Class Representative, I want to assure you that I, and many others in Class 1-A, do not feel the same. You are very intelligent and it’s clear that you definitely belong in the halls of UA. Your analysis, what I heard of it, was incredibly insightful. Please do not take his words to heart. He says many things he shouldn’t, unfortunately.

It was always so hard to time calls to Hisashi. She appreciated that his job in California as a Quirk Analyst paid so well, but the money was just a bonus to getting away from Izuku, a shame in his eyes,
in her eyes, and the whole Midoriya family knew it. The time difference was a pain. Hisashi’s day was just beginning, and hers was just ending. He’d had a better paid offer in New York, where the time difference was less great, and he’d rejected it, and she knew it was to avoid them, to avoid Izuku’s curse.But she was hoping maybe when Hisashi heard how well Izuku was doing he’d be convinced to at least come home for a visit. And then she could surely convince him to stay permanently after that, but first she just needed him back in her arms.
So at 10:43pm Japan time, she called her husband. The phone rang for a long time, as it always did, but Hisashi picked up, as he always did, because he still loved her, even if he didn’t love their son.

“Shit,” Izuku mutters as he’s met face to face with Todoroki Shouto. “Don’t suppose you can be convinced to forget you saw me gathering blackmail on your dad?”
Perhaps it’s the fact he’s clearly half-asleep. Perhaps Izuku’s actually secretly charismatic which Izuku thinks is really unlikely. Whatever the case, Todoroki slips into the office and closes the door, expression unreadable in the dim lights.
“So, just to clarify, you’re not here to commit a murder. Just to get blackmail material? That’s all?”
“Murder is not the worst thing you could do to a man like Endeavor when it’s clearly his legacy that he values most,” Izuku replies, sitting down on Endeavor’s desk and trying to look casual. He kicks his black shoed feet back and forth lightly. “The media would paint his death as a tragedy and him as a hero taken from the world too soon, so why would I?”

Hitoshi and Izuku have both already started eating, discussing their training with Present Mic after school when Todoroki Shouto from Class 1-A sits down next to Izuku casually, looking all too comfortable next to Hitoshi’s best friend.
“Oh! Um, Todoroki! I didn’t know you were planning on joining us for lunch!” Izuku never stutters like that during lunch anymore. Hitoshi hates it. He’s fully prepared to murder Endeavor’s son; he tries to convey this to Izuku with his eyes, but Izuku seems to not notice.
“Well, we’re friends now, so it seems appropriate to join you for lunch,” Todoroki says, and Hitoshi realizes this guy is painfully awkward. “Is that okay?”
He sounds pathetically sad at the idea of Izuku telling him no, like kicked puppy sad. It's almost cute, and that makes Hitoshi kind of mad for some reason.
Izuku smiles, wide and bright and genuine, and Hitoshi realizes he’s stuck with Todoroki now, because for whatever reason, Izuku actually genuinely likes him. “I’d like that! I — I mean, if it’s okay with Toshi, that is...?”

Midoriya’s eyes light up. “Mom never lets me go to stalls; can we go to a stall, Toshi? Please?” He clings on to his friend’s arm, eyes wide with delight. “Please, please, please?”
Hizashi thinks it’s kinda sad that the kid’s never been to a stall to get street food. Maybe next time he’ll suggest they go get some yakitori from a stall; he thinks the kid would be excited to have it from a stall instead of from a restaurant or his mom making it.
“Okay, fine, Izu, you didn’t have to beg like that,” Shinsou laughs. Midoriya keeps his hold on Shinsou’s arm, only changing it to lay his head on Shinsou’s shoulder. “I would’ve said yes after the first please. I can’t say no to you. Especially when it comes to introducing you to all the goodies you’ve been denied.”
Hizashi laughs. “Alright, come on, you two, let’s fill up your water bottles — make sure you’re sipping on water while we’re on the way to get boba, then I’ll let you put it up in your bag at last. After all your hard work, we need to rehydrate you!”

“Welcome home, Mom,” Izuku plasters a smile on his face, and it’s the most plastic thing Hitoshi’s ever seen.
Inko doesn’t respond to her son, who clearly loves these boys more than her, and he shouldn’t, when she’s given up everything for him. He’s choosing these boys over her, choosing to use them in his little hero plot — she heard them after all; talking about winning the sports festival and joining heroics courses, and she’d listened to Izuku rambled about it enough when he was little to read between the lines and get a good idea that they were working together on that. Izuku must be planning on using them, even if he doesn’t realize it — since he can’t make it far without a Quirk to call his own.
So yes, it’s clear he loves them more than he loves her, despite all she’s done for him, but it’s not his fault he’s selfish, that he takes and takes, that all he ever does is use people. How can he do anything but, when he’s so weak, when he’s so fragile? That doesn’t mean she will reward him for his unfair behavior. She watches him for a moment, watches the way his expression falters and then crumples, and then she turns around and walks to her room, silent.

And it leaves him with a warm feeling in his chest that has nothing to do with his quirk. “Do you want to meet up and grab a bite to eat or something? I need to complain about the attack. This shouldn’t have happened. Who attacks a bunch of first years?”
“There’s a pretty nice ramen place not too far from both the USJ and the main campus; that way none of us have too far to travel. I can text you the name so you can get directions, Shou?”
“I’m good with wherever you want to meet. Why don’t you go ahead and text me the place and we’ll start heading there now?”
