Summary
Talon thought the tiny human — child? — might be dead at first with how still it was, but then its eyes had opened, seeing Talon, and promptly scrambled backwards.
Talon wonders what it's doing here alone. Humans this size tend to be well protected by their nest mothers and fathers. Has the little one wandered off?
Talon coos again, scooting a little closer.
No matter. The tiny human will go cold if Talon leaves it here, and unlike with Talon, humans do not become warm again once they’ve been cold.

Summary
Talon coos softly, slipping through the window. It brings a cold draft with it, air heavy with the promise of snow, and Talon quickly slides the glass back in place in an attempt to keep the warmth inside.
The lump in its nest moves, a dark head popping up from the tangle of fabric with hair sticking in all directions, sleep mussed.
Jason yawns, blinking into the darkness, and Talon is unspeakably proud when its chick finds it immediately even though it’s standing still. Its chick is getting better at seeing in the dark.
“Talon?“ Jason asks, voice hoarse from sleep, but he still tacks on tiny chirrup. Their own unique way of greeting.

Summary
Talon hisses, nudging Jason insistently underneath his own body, crouched on all fours under the kitchen table.
Bruce sighs, running a hand through his hair, “I know this isn’t Alfred grade food, but this is actually the least burned thing I’ver ever made.”
Talon screeches, chittering angrily, and Jason likewise is glaring venomously at where the large man is half lying on the kitchen floor, trying to slide a plate of something black and foul smelling towards them.
If Bruce wants its owlet, he will have to try much harder than this!

Summary
Mr. Freeze is someone Dick and Bruce have fought before, back when his owlet still had to stay in the safety of the nest while Talon and the Bat took flight together.
Disturbed, is the word that came to Dick’s mind then, though he hadn’t been able to voice it. Disturbed, and sad. Lost in the throes of a grief so profound it had ripped all the goodness right out of him.
Now, years later, that grief has become twisted and all Dick can see when he finally lays eyes on the man is the same kind of shell the Court had reduced so many of Dick’s fellow Talons to.
Cold, empty.
Void.
Dick wonders if he looked like that, before his owlet.

Tim isn’t sure what’s going to happen now… but he knows that something has to. Something needs to change.
Robin… Robin didn’t help.
Tim didn’t- he thought it would. Help Dick. See- Jason, maybe. Just for a moment. Long enough for Dick to stop hugging Jason’s hoodie to his chest and look at him. Any of them. He thought it would- that there would at least be more of Dick inside that shell again. Just for a moment.
But now Tim is nursing five long scratches down the back of his neck where Dick had tried clawing the suit off him.

Summary
In his dreams, Jason smiles. Breathless laughter erupting out of him like light from the sun when Dick scoops him up, not understanding the frenzy with which Dick checks him over but submitting to it all the same, confusion giving way to indulgent exasperation regardless of how many times Dick buries his face in the owlet’s hair and cries. Like he doesn’t understand why Dick clings to him like his life depends on it, like he’s just been away for a few minutes to fetch a glass of water and wonders what the fuss is all about.
And then Dick wakes up, the comforting smell dissipating along with the dream, and he wishes he could reach inside his chest and claw the heart right out of it.
But things aren’t that easy. And Tim- Tim needs him. Talon has one more nestling to protect.

Summary
Hood’s fingers twitch, anger-rage-fury shaking the Talon’s large frame. “You’ll really just lay back and let me mutilate you, huh?”
Oh. Finally. It’s not the place Dick would have chosen- but it’s not unusual for an owl to bring live prey back to its nest before killing it.
He folds to his knees again with an affirming warble, even as every line of Hood‘s body draws tight as a bowstring with murderous rage.
