Humans have always enjoyed using unusual mediums to tell stories. For example, Fever Knights tells a story in the form of a video game strategy guide. And many stories are told in the form of newspaper articles or through letters. I feel this is no different. This uses the format of a video game review to tell a fannish story, featuring several fannish references to fandoms.
