No doubt the son of Hades would sense the death of a camper on him, but Nico didn’t say anything about it. “Why’re you here?”
Will giggled again and looked away. “I’ve made a mistake.”
Nico was quiet for a long few moments. “I can see that.”
“Nico?”
“Yeah?”
“If I tell you something…” Will’s eyelids fluttered closed. “Promise not to tell. I’d have to kill you.”
He didn’t have to see Nico to know he was pursing his lips. “I don’t doubt that.”
“So you won’t tell?”
“No, Will. I won’t.”
Another giggle escaped Will, little lyres chiming through his voice. “Oh, gods. Nico, when I fell into the lake, I drowned.”——

Will took a deep breath, opened sky-blue eyes and turned them on Asher, who did his best not to squirm. “Why do you want to know?”——

Nico yelped as he felt a large weight fall onto him, when watched Will spin around and flop back onto the son of Hades himself. Nico sat up and scowled. "I hate you."
"Love you, too, darlin'." Will grinned, and Nico's scowl melted with the way Will's carefully concealed accent slipped out at the word. "Do you know what day it is?"
"The day we get a divorce." Nico grumbled.
"We're not married yet," Will sighed, seeming genuinely crestfallen, "But no! Today is January 28! Do you know what day it is?"
"The day my mom ejected me from her womb." Nico deadpanned.
"I dislike you," Will said in the same even, slightly upbeat tone he'd been talking in before. "Yes! It's your birthday!"
"Oh no." Nico sighed. "What are you gonna do to me?"

It wouldn't have been a problem if it weren't for Malcolm Pace burning his hands on lava that the wall had spouted far too soon and plummeted from the wall thanks to a harness that was connected far too flimsily, falling to the ground with a loud crack that grated on Will's sensitive ears.
