“What are you doing?” Charles asked, shifting on the bed next to Erik who looked over as though he’d been caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
“Nothing, getting ready to get up,” He replied casually, knowing it wouldn’t work. He was always up long before Charles woke. Even this morning he had been awake for half an hour, lying still and hoping for the pain to ease before he dared move. It hadn’t worked.

But when he woke up, he wasn’t any better. He didn’t know if it was just another dream or if it was real. Were the screams people needing help? Or were they just in his head? He could never be sure but going to check felt like it could be a death sentence.”

Summary
Erik looked at him, wondering how he was supposed to answer that question. It wasn’t an easy one. Or it was, but it wasn’t easy to find it in himself to say the words. Communication was never his strong point, especially when it came to his emotions.
“I’m sorry,” He whispered softly, “I couldn’t stay away. I needed to see you, to know how you are. I needed to say I’m sorry for what happened. I know it doesn’t change anything but I wanted to say it and I never meant to hurt you. That was the last thing I ever wanted to do. If I could I would go back and never deflect that bullet. But I know that doesn’t change anything, talking about what I should’ve done or could’ve done.”

Summary
That morning, he had managed to get up and get his day started. He just got up long enough to get dressed and go for breakfast. It was enough to convince Charles was normal. While Charles went to his first class of the day, Erik found someone to cover his classes for him and went back to fall onto the bed.
No matter how much he knew it wasn’t his fault he felt like this, he wanted to blame himself for not being able to fight it. For not being strong enough to get up and do what he needed to do. At the very least, he wanted to fight the thoughts that were swirling around his head but he didn’t even have the strength for that.

With everything that Erik had been through in his life, it shouldn’t come as a shock that he had bad days where the thoughts caught up to him and wouldn’t let him rest, leaving him tired and exhausted, unable to continue on. But at least he’s no longer alone.Series

“I don’t trust anyone else,” Erik whispered back, using the hands on Charles’s back to pull him back down and kiss him once again.
