Summary
The Remus of today just placed the bowl back in the sink, his hands still shaking, but not longer from physical pain.
Remus forced himself to take seven steps to his left, to the wall with the red landline that he didn’t even have to convince Sirius to install. He unhooks the handset and places the receiver to his ear, only barely managing to press in the numbers engraved into his brain before he sinks down onto the floor in an attempt to give his knees the relief they have been craving.
It rings two times, three times, and four times. Remus forces himself back up using the palm of his hands to set the phone back and end the call, when he finally hears the sweet sound of silence.
“Hello?” says James Potter, husband to his best friend of nine years.

Summary
On the fourth of May, 1998, the tell-tale ringtone of their telephone rings through the cream shades of their walls.
"Mamma, it's for you." Her daughter informs her, and Mary kisses her head as she grabs the receiver.
"Hello?" Mary says, a smile still on her face.
"Is this Mary Macdonald?" A painfully familiar voice asks her, and the smile threatens to slip. Her daughter is gazing up at her with wide eyes, however, and Mary focuses all of her energy into keeping her expression the same as it was. She can feel her breath quicken, and she is struggling a little bit to get oxygen back into her lungs.
She recognises the voice. She has spent the last seventeen years trying to forget it.
