Summary
"I didn't want to tell you," he says, and she can tell by the slump of his shoulders that he's telling her the truth and that it's difficult. She wraps her arms around him and rests her temple against his chest, listening to his heartbeat. He sucks in a breath and she focuses on the whoosh of air in and out of his lungs. "It's... I don't know. It's private, y'know? And I know--" he adds hastily, when she stiffens, "that I need to get better at telling you stuff. But this, uh, isn't something I've ever had to explain, because I've only ever dated vixens."
Judy's ears prick up. She'd wondered if there was fox culture he wasn't sharing with her, especially given the way everything she's ever heard about it has been, well, hearsay. He runs a gentle finger along the edge of one ear and she shivers. He drops his hand and kisses her forehead.
"Witchcraft is... Sacred," he says, and she can feel him tensing under her. She smooths her hands along his back to let him know that she's listening and she's not judging, even if she is wildly curious. "To foxes. It's a tradition that's lasted millennia."
"So it's real?"
Judy learns that there's more to fox culture than the world at large realizes.

Nick thinks this is a terrible idea.
