Summary
He’s not freaked out. He can be so chill about this; it’s Eddie, they’ve had a good amount of dates already, they’re official - like, fuck, Richie’s already blurted out the big, four letter l-word to him not that long after Eddie woke up in the hospital after getting impaled. Richie already knows, as sappy and crazy as it would be to say to any other person, that Eddie is the person he wants to spend the rest of his life with, no doubt in his mind about it. He’s already spent an ungodly amount of time fantasizing about popping the question, although he knows he should wait, because-
Okay, so it’s not Eddie that’s making Richie nervous. Not at all.
It’s Eddie’s kid, or - more specifically - meeting Eddie’s kid.
--
Or, better known as: that one where Eddie and Myra have a child, and the only thing more frightening, in Richie's humble opinion, than reuniting with your childhood crush, fighting a demon space clown, and your aforementioned childhood crush almost dying to protect you, is realizing that you now have to impress your boyfriend's son.

Summary
“I know it’s pretty weird being around everyone,” Richie says, biting his bottom lip. “But, you know - I get that part of it, man. Not everything, obviously, but I get being in a crowd and not knowing if you can let loose around them.”
Frankie watches Richie, considering.
“You don’t have to do anything you don’t wanna do,” Richie continues. “I’ll even sit with you, or we can go and dig around in the woods or something. Whatever you want.”
Frankie blinks once, twice. It’s weird - he’s so used to his dad, and how his dad tries so hard to bridge the gap between Frankie and everyone else. But even though Dad speaks sign language, they don’t always- he and Frankie don’t always see eye to eye.
So Frankie doesn’t know how to feel about the fact that Richie manages to get so close to the mark, how he knows exactly what Frankie wants to hear.
--
Eddie, Richie, and Eddie's son, Frankie, take a trip to meet the rest of the Losers Club. Frankie still doesn't really know what to make of Richie, much less the rest of their friends.
Also known as: Reddie told through the POV of Eddie's son.

Summary
Frankie is simply watching the crowd, standing at Eddie’s side. He doesn’t make a face of disgust or anger like Eddie had seen in countless nightmares - he doesn’t pull on Eddie’s sleeve and demand that he call Myra to come pick him up. He doesn’t laugh and say that this was all some weird, elaborate prank, that he thinks Richie’s a funny guy but he doesn’t accept this part of his father and never will.
Frankie doesn’t do any of that. He simply watches as he walks by Eddie’s side, taking in everything around them, before he suddenly asks, “Why don’t we have one of those?”
Eddie blinks. “One of what?”
“A flag,” Frankie says, pointing to where a group of people are waving various flags - so many different ones, some of which Eddie’s never seen before. “Don’t you want one?”
“I…” Eddie stutters, and then nods furiously. “Yeah, yes, I- Rich, we should get some flags to hold, right? Rich?”
Richie is still scrubbing his face with the back of his hand, nodding. “Yeah, uh,” he laughs wetly, “I’m good, Eds. I’m okay. Let’s grab a flag.”

Summary
He’s thought about marrying Eddie ever since Derry; he’s had the fucking ring picked out for months. And- it’s not because of Frankie specifically that he hasn’t asked, not at all. Maybe he’s still a little nervous that it’s too early to get married, that he and Eddie still have a lot of shit to figure out.
But just as much as he wants to be Eddie’s husband, Richie really wants to be Frankie’s stepfather. Especially over the past few months, the more time he’s spent with Frankie, the more he’s gotten to know him, all he’s been able to think about is how nice it’d be to be able to call himself that.
If I had a kid, Richie can’t help but think for the hundredth time, I’d want them to be just like Frankie.

Richie and Frankie hang out one-on-one, where the concept of marriage is brought up, and Richie realizes that there's nothing more that he wants than to have a family.

Summary
A one-in-three hundred and sixty-five chance, Frankie thinks every year when he and Dad’s birthday rolls around, watching again and again and again as Dad refuses to do anything for himself, choosing once again to sit in the background and let Frankie have all the fun.
Frankie knows that this year will be different, though: Dad is going to be turning forty-one to Frankie’s twelve, and Frankie wants, more than anything, for his father to just do something for himself for once. Their birthday falls on one of Mom’s weeks, for one, and Richie is going to be there this year - that alone will probably push Dad to make plans, to do something probably boring and weird but what he actually wants to do.

Summary
Eddie has too as of late. With Myra, Eddie had known that they would only ever have Frankie: Myra’s pregnancy had been a complete surprise, and it had dawned on Eddie the older Frankie had gotten and the more he and his mother had argued, and how emotionless Myra and Eddie’s marriage had been, that they shouldn’t have more children together.
But with Richie, Eddie can see it clearly: he can see a future where he and Richie have children together. Where they sit Frankie down and announce, “You’re gonna be a big brother,” and that dream is so incredibly enticing that Eddie has to grip the side of the counter to steady himself.

Summary
“Are you okay, Frankie?” Dad says, breaking Frankie out of his thoughts. “Seriously.”
Frankie knows that most other kids would say what’s going on - that this all started because of the divorce. That kids can be really fucking cruel.
But he can’t hurt Dad like that, not after - not after everything, not when Dad’s so happy with Richie and the Losers. Not when Frankie really likes Richie, too; even if it’s frustrating at times to see how much easier Dad and Richie are able to communicate, that even though his parents weren’t happy, that Richie really was the final strike against his parent’s marriage - he can’t do that to either of them.
It’s easier for Dad to believe that Frankie just messed with the wrong kid one day.

Being the only child of a dysfunctional divorce isn't exactly easy, especially when you're 12 and your father is dating Richie freakin' Tozier.

Summary
“Richie, dear,” Mags murmurs as she comes up behind him, laying a hand on his shoulder. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” Richie says automatically, and at his mother’s pursed lips, sighs. “Frankie’s pissed at me. I don’t- Ma, I don’t even know how it happened, one minute we’re like normal, and the next he’s refusing to look at me or talk to me, and I don’t really know what to do-”
Mags glances over at Frankie, and then back to Richie, blinking. “He’s twelve, Richie. He’s bound to be upset with you every now and then.”
And when Richie stares at her like she’s crazy, she continues, “Richie, I don’t think you realize how much that little boy cares about you. He’s going to be upset with you, maybe even yell at you, but that’s what children do sometimes; you had your moments where you wanted nothing to do with your father and I, and then thirty minutes later, you’re coming down the stairs and talking to us like nothing happened.”

Summary
Frankie stares at him, expression still for a long time; Eddie doesn’t want to look, doesn’t want to see the pity on his child’s face, because that’s surely what will be there. Richie had one when Eddie had admitted to him that very same fact: that he didn’t really have any friends, that before reuniting with the Losers, his circle had consisted purely of Myra’s friends and coworkers.
In fact, at his first wedding, it’d been the same: the only person from Eddie’s side that came was his mother.
Frankie looks away, not saying anything, and Eddie feels a lump in his throat, something akin to embarrassment, although he doesn’t know if it’s exactly that - it’s just the word that comes the closest to how he feels: embarrassed about the fact that his son has gotten a glimpse into that aspect of Eddie’s life, the one that he’s made peace with but has tried to hide from Frankie.
--
Eddie and Richie are about to get married, but navigating the ups and down's of fatherhood while still having to deal with your residual childhood traumas makes for a terrifying combination.

Summary
It’s kind of boring, even though Dad and Richie had promised that they were going to cut down on a lot of the traditional stuff - whatever that means - but when Frankie peeks around Bill’s side and sees his father’s face, everything starts to dawn on Frankie all over again.
Dad and Richie are getting married, and after today, Richie won’t just be Dad’s boyfriend or fiance. He’s not just the cool guy that his dad brought into their lives, who makes Frankie laugh and hangs out with him, who Frankie’s learned to trust and care for - he really is going to be…well, like another father to Frankie.

Summary
Richie’s heart flutters at the thought of it. Of the three of them - Eddie, Richie, and Frankie - opening up their home to a child who needs a family, of how it’ll be to have another kid in the house, maybe younger than Frankie, or maybe even the same age, since Richie knows that he and Eddie would open their hearts to any child who needed them.
Richie sometimes thinks of all the milestones he missed with Frankie - his first words, his first steps, being dropped off at school for the very first time. And he’s happy to be in his life now, knows that there’s so many milestones Frankie hasn’t reached yet - and god, Richie has no fucking clue how he’s gonna handle it, the thought of Frankie graduating high school and going to college, of growing up - but Richie can’t deny that his heart aches with the idea of being able to witness it all over again, with Frankie and Eddie by his side.

Summary
When Eddie hangs up the phone, he runs his hand through his hair, hissing out a fuckfuckfuck under his breath before he runs into the living room, where his husband is sitting on the couch watching some TLC show that Eddie cannot for the life of him remember the name of, flailing his arms as he shouts, “Myra’s mother is coming over!”
Richie’s hand is halfway up to his mouth with a fistful of mini pretzels, eyes widening as he coughs, dropping a few pretzels on the couch as he beats a fist on his chest, staring up at Eddie. “Fucking what?”
“Myra’s mother,” Eddie stresses, shouting over the television. “My ex-wife’s mother.”
“Yeah, I know who that is, unfortunately,” Richie drawls, getting to his feet and tossing the bag to the side. “Whaddya mean she’s coming here? Like, to Manhattan, or-?”
“Richie,” Eddie walks right up to his husband, putting his hands on his shoulders and looking up into his eyes. “Myra’s mother is coming to our apartment.”

Summary
He loves Richie and the Losers. His father never had a side of the family before, and Frankie realized very quickly that all of the times that he’d told his friends that his dad was just kind of boring high-strung, his father had really been lonely, and it became so obvious after Frankie met the Losers and saw his father with Richie.
Richie’s become his stepfather: Richie loves him and cares for him, and Frankie can’t - doesn’t want to - imagine a life without him in it. He knows that Richie is good for his dad, possibly the greatest person that could exist for him. Frankie’s friend Oliver had called them soulmates when he came to Dad and Richie’s wedding, and although Frankie had thought that Oliver was just being corny, he realizes that that term fits for them so well.
All of these things are true - he loves all three of the parent figures in his life, and he knows he needs them, so why…
“Frankie,” Dr. Novik tells him gently. “It’s not your job to sort out your parents' relationship and figure it out for them. They’re the ones who need to be adults and let you be a kid.”

Summary
But Dad looks sad again, and Frankie doesn’t have to wonder what he’s thinking: that he couldn’t do more, that he knows, better than any of the Losers or Richie could ever guess, how shitty Frankie’s Thanksgiving actually was. Dad knows all of the people there, remembers the way Mom’s family is.
Frankie can see the guilt in Dad’s eyes, and half of him feels an odd sense of vindication about it - good, because it’s not fair that you divorced mom and i have to go there alone - and a conflicting sense of despair, knowing that Dad is trying the best he can, that there really isn’t anything he can do in this situation at all.

Summary
He’d been so worried up until Richie met Frankie; Eddie had been a bundle of nerves for the week leading up to it, terrified of how it’d go, if Frankie would be okay with it, if he and Richie would get along.
And then, just like that, as Richie began talking to Frankie - and to him, not at Eddie and waiting for Eddie to translate, like pretty much every other person had always done once they realized that Frankie is Deaf - Eddie began to see his son relax. Frankie began to talk to him a little more, joke with him more. Frankie’s always been a character, sure, but the reservedness that Eddie had observed in his son during the divorce began to melt away the more he got to know Richie.
“I think you saved me and Frankie,” Eddie finally says, and as soon as he says it, he knows that it’s true.

“Are you having fun?” Frankie asks, watching Richie’s expression carefully. “With me?”
“I am,” Richie says right away, lifting up an arm and wrapping it around his stepson’s shoulders to tug him close. Frankie scoots to his side, ducking his head shyly when Richie looks at him. “Dude, I always have fun with you.”
“Me too,” Frankie says, shrugging. “I really like hanging out with you, Richie. It’s…I dunno. I like that you and I can just…”
Richie swallows, trying to cover it with a grin as he nudges Frankie’s side with his elbow and signs, “What? You can’t leave me hanging, dude.”“I like that it’s easy to hang out with you,” Frankie finally says, and Richie feels a conflicting rush of affection and sadness at the admission.

Summary
Frankie looks down at his shirt, where PROUD SON is brandished across his chest; he smiles, looking over at his father and Richie again and thinking yeah, i am really proud of both of them.
“Excuse me,” Frankie says as he gets the attention of a random passerby. He waves Dad and Richie over, gesturing for them to take the girls out and hold them as he turns back to the stranger and continues, “Would you be able to take a picture of me with my dads?”
Frankie makes his way back over, flicking Richie’s cheek when he sees the look on his stepfather’s gaze and - with a smug feeling at the realization that now, he’s not that much shorter than his father and will hopefully be taller than him very soon - settles between both of his fathers, Charlie in Richie’s arms and Phoebe in Dad’s, making sure that his shirt is in full view as he grins at the camera.

Summary
He knows that Frankie is incredibly intelligent and perceptive; Frankie knows better than almost anyone that no, Eddie is not okay, not in the slightest, but Frankie is also not even fourteen yet, and if there’s one thing that Eddie doesn’t want, is for his teenage son to have to bare the brunt of Eddie’s trauma and emotions.
You know you can let him in, Richie’s told him a hundred times, and Eddie knows that, of course he does, but right now, in the middle of the hallway of Frankie’s school with Myra just down the hall, Eddie doesn’t feel like he can.
“You don’t have to worry about me,” Eddie finally tells his son, watching as Frankie clenches his jaw, eyes narrowing. “It’s my job to worry about you, not the other way around.”
He says it with just the barest hint of humor, trying to make his son laugh a little or shake his head affectionately, but Frankie simply just stares at him.
“Fine,” his son finally says, “If that’s what you want.”
