Summary
“What do you think, Dad?”
“Crap, I dunno. It would feel really awful, I think. I wouldn’t be able to pull the lever. Just thinking about the death on my hands.” Ryland did not want to tell his teenage son this, but when he thought of making the decision, he could not help but imagine being the person tied to the tracks. Watching the tram barrel towards you, being held down, helpless to do anything but accept the fact that you were being sent to your death. Ripped of a choice.
The trolley problem is a thought experiment in moral philosophy and moral psychology with many variations, involving hypothetical ethical dilemmas about whether to sacrifice one person to save a larger number of people. The series usually begins with a scenario in which a runaway trolley (tram) or train is on course to collide with and kill a number of people (traditionally five) tied to the tracks, but a driver or bystander can intervene and divert the vehicle to kill just one person on a different track.

He’s going to need a coffee.

Summary
When he is fifteen years old, Courtland Gentry-Grace puts a bullet through his father’s head.
He does not panic. It was as if he had known this was coming all along, as if the first decade of his life had simply all been a buildup to that October night where he'd needed to protect his brother.
He tells Colt and Ry to pack a bag. He buries the gun, and his father’s body.
Or, the Graces run away.
