“Shut up, just- shut up.” River turned onto his side, away from Lamb. He briefly entertained the thought that he might simply will this entire situation away, if he wanted it enough; unfortunately, after squeezing his eyes shut and reopening them, that did not seem to be the case. Regrettable.

Everything is going exactly to plan - Any day now River would be getting scouted for M.I.5, but in the meantime, a History and Politics degree from St John’s College Cambridge wouldn’t hurt, and even better, his boyfriend is studying right beside him. What he hadn’t counted on is that people aren’t as kind in the real world as back home, and all of a sudden life isn’t so easy all the time.
James can’t believe his luck! He proved his dad wrong and secured himself a place in St John’s studying Political Science and no one could ever take that away from him. Even if River is acting kind of weird.
It’s sink or swim time for River and James.

The next morning River sluggishly slapped his alarm off, slowly blinking his heavy eyelids to feel a pounding headache pulsing through his eyes, every part of his body throbbing. Haphazardly he attempted to locate the half used pack of paracetamol sitting on his bedside table, only to end up repeatedly smacking the wood. Until the only option seemed to be the daunting attempt to roll out of bed. A night's sleep had felt like mere seconds and the exhaustion pressed down on his bones like lead.
