Sonic's past is one that he does not like to discuss. It's not that he doesn't want to confront it, no, he did that ages ago. Running from the past is a losing game after all.
He just doesn't like talking about it. Simple as that.
(After all, why dwell in the past, when the past is the past? Especially when you're in the present. It is called that for a reason you know.)

Summary
Sonic gets into an argument with the team when they tell him he's not doing enough and that they have to do things for him, so he gets angry and decides to go on an indefinite vacation with Tails.
While Sonic enjoys finally having time to travel, the team realizes that Sonic was more needed in the battles than they thought, especially when other villains are more annoying to them when there's no blue ball to relieve them.
