In the time since Ratio was knighted, he'd crossed paths with Aventurine daily, learned everything there was to know about the prince, been treated with courtesy and respect. Anyone observing from the outskirts would say that Ratio had everything he should ever desire. But Ratio still wanted more, and what he wanted was surely impossible for him to obtain.

After what feels like hours, he finally makes it to the bottom floor and out the door, crashing into the smoggy street. He takes a deep breath, and starts walking. He needs to move, can’t even think about getting into a car without feeling claustrophobic. Maybe it will help him clear his head, shake off this discomfort. He tries not to think about how all this would be so much easier if he was dead. He isn’t supposed to think like that, he made a promise to Ratio, and he doesn't really mean it anyway. It would be nice, that’s all.
