It was a scene that would go on to replay in his mind again, and again, and again.
The setting sun casting its last rays of light on Ishgard. Two of his dearest friends running to stop his father.
The crackle of ambient aether. The smell of burning flesh. The sight of blood.
A spear that had found its mark.
Or: In the aftermath of the Vault, the Lord Commander and the Warrior of Light find comfort in each other.

Summary
The Warrior of Light is coming to Ishgard to recover.
That was all the correspondence about the matter Aymeric had gotten. He was worried, of course, but that it said “recover” helped Aymeric breathe a sigh of relief. If her life had been in danger, he would’ve known.
But nothing could have prepared him for the state the Warrior of Light was in.

Summary
“Father, pray hear my request—outside our walls are three souls whom I swore to protect with my life. As I speak to you now, corrupt forces conspire to kill them in cold blood. If we do not allow them passage into Ishgard, their enemies will surely take them.”
Count Edmont de Fortemps let out a weary sigh, his gaze sinking into the dark amber depths of his tea, unable to believe what he was hearing right now. In his long years, he thought he’d seen it all: dragons, war, the rot of empires, gaelicats. But everything paled in comparison to the shock of his son asking for a favor that would irrevocably change their lives.

Summary
Zenos's eyes strayed from the catatonic warrior to the harlequin. Whatever words he been blathering about had gone in one ear and out the other, only coming into focus now.
"—And so that is that. I will say, she is much more agreeable like this, wouldn't you say my lord? My, you should have seen the look on her face. Our dear Warrior of Light was—"

Summary
Though the woman known as the Warrior of Light is still injured from her battle to save the star, she's grown dreadfully bored with bedrest.
So when a little excursion at her friends' behest reveals some hidden truths about her past, she jumps at the chance to learn more — and does her best to ignore how all this makes her feel. Because nobody else should have to carry the burden she does. That's what she's for.
(The Warrior of Light sacrifices everything, even her own well-being and comfort, for the people around her. I thought that was interesting, so I wrote a story where that character trait is a maladaptive coping mechanism that drives her to hide practically everything about herself, despite everyone around her really wishing she'd open up to them.)
