Summary
Max is dragged to a rock concert by Safi and Amanda, and she can't be too mad when the members of the band are pretty hot (and gay). Especially the blue haired guitarist, who Max can't help but obsessively stare at. When they cross paths at a bar after the concert, Safi gives her a friendly shove to go over and talk to her. And she does. She's hot and cool, and her name is Chloe, but that's totally just a coincidence. The last time Max saw her childhood best friend, they'd barely been teenagers.
Chloe can't believe Max actually doesn't recognize her. It's been over fifteen years, sure, but she recognized Max on sight. She wants to be hurt about it, but the flirting and promise of a fun one night stand make her hesitate. So she decides to go along with it, pretend she doesn't know exactly who Max Caulfield is.
Until things get real back at the hotel, and she has no choice but to confess.

She made to drop her hand, but Max’s came up to hold it in place. She leaned into the touch, expression shatteringly tender. “It’s okay, Safi,” Max told her. “I think I wanted to keep a piece of you in me.”

After the events of Double Exposure, Safi leaves Max behind at Caledon, not to go on some journey to find more people with powers, but because her yearning for Max has reached a peak and she needs to escape, needs to let herself suffer. Except, she accidentally left a part of herself with Max, inside her. Using that, Max manages to track her down—because Max can't handle more weeks of feeling Safi's yearning, her desire and want, without finally confronting her about it.
