Anklebones was what they called her in every village in the vicinity, because that was what she won.

(Pre)historical RPF of the Bronze Age Kazakh girl found buried with her massive collection of sheep-bone dice; portrayed as the brief brilliant life of a prodigy who—far from being stigmatized for her special interest—was celebrated for her accomplishments and loved by her community.

In which we actually see Hilda socializing; a crossover with some Norman Rockwell characters.

This vignette expands upon an exchange in Mona Lisa Overdrive between aging cyborg mercenary Sally Shears (AKA Molly Millions, Cat Mother, Steppin’ Razor, Rose Kolodny, and Misty Steele—this lady’s got more names than a Wuxia hero) and her charge, Yakuza princess Yanaka Kumiko; Sally confides measured bits of her backstory to the crushstruck Kumiko, including stripping to bare a torso-long scar (from a near-fatal cagefighting injury, kept “to remind her of being stupid.”)

It’s a precious moment of trust, an elusive commodity in both women’s lives; LizzyChrome elaborates upon this to let Sally hold forth on how her prosthetics work—a question that Gibson chose to bury under Rule of Cool, and that’s challenged two generations’ worth of illustrators and cosplayers.

Historical AU. In 1947 New York, a motley group of strangers are about to come face-to-face with the idea that you can catch a criminal from within his own mind.

A post-WWII noir mystery AU in which an oddly assorted bunch of cops, academics, war veterans, and civilians, masterminded by neighborhood reference librarian and gossip networker Penelope Garcia, investigate a number of violent local crimes—and find themselves pioneering criminal profiling in the process.

(When this fic debuted in October 2010, Reid’s mysterious migraines were an ongoing canon subplot; the period setting provides a ruthlessly plausible explanation. That’s all I’m going to say.)
