Kanade’s head began to throb. The silence of the room now felt like it was pressing against her eardrums, demanding an answer she didn't have.
Who are you, Yoisaki Kanade?
"I'm the one who saves her," Kanade whimpered, while holding her aching head.
But she is saved already.
"Then... I'll find a way," she insisted, her eyes closing against her will as exhaustion finally began to win her over. "I have to... I have to be the one..."
Her grip on the desk loosened. Her breathing slowed. As she slipped from the waking world into sleep, the last thing she saw was the blinking cursor on her composing software.
Now, the battlefield was empty. The war was over. So what is left of the soldier that gave her life purpose to protecting the nation?
