Summary
He wakes from a dream, gasping, jerking upright. Dazed, he claws at the back of his neck, where warmth pools, and it feels, for a moment, as if his fingers are resting upon someone else’s skin, as if there were someone else’s hand cupping the back of his neck, of his head, as though to protect it when he contorted himself in a seizure. He freezes, chest heaving, unable to move for fear that if he does, whatever it is will dissipate, whoever it is will let go.
The warmth stays, lingers. It moves up the crown of his head, the side of his cheek. It presses against his neck, as if checking for a pulse. He is so keenly aware of it now, jackrabbiting against his skin, all the lub-dubbing, the frantic stumble and thud of it. Alive-alive-alive-alive.
This is not your grave, Fitz thinks, half-drowned. This is not your grave. Get up.
A boy is a beast, a grave is not a grave, and you can't blame a dog for teaching it how to bite.

Summary
Yanqing knows what overtraining feels like.
This is not that.
His body feels light. His cuts disappear. His dreams leave him crying over a warmth he cannot remember. Yanqing only wants to know what is happening to him.
When fear finally outweighs denial, Yanqing does not go to Jing Yuan. He cannot. Not yet. He does not want the healers whispering over his body. He does not want anyone looking at him like he is already something contaminated.
So when the symptoms begin to look like mara, he seeks out the only person he knows who has lived with a curse in her own blood.
Jingliu doesn't give him an answer. Then she breaks out of prison, takes him with her, and begins teaching him what a monster is supposed to be.

Summary
After learning of the prophecy, of what their unborn son would do to destroy their kingdom, King Priam and Queen Hecuba of Ilion did not send the babe Paris out to be killed by the herdsman Agelaos; no, instead of following the origins of Oedipus, they followed the origins of Perseus — Paris was sent adrift into the Mediterranean.
Despite all odds, he washes up alive on the shores of Mycenae, where a shepherd takes him in and raises him in the nearby shadow of the Mycenaean city ripe with strife.
fic title from one of my fav anc poems, “Adonis” by Praxilla:
“Finest of all the things I have left is the light of the sun,
Next to that the brilliant stars and the face of the moon,
Cucumbers in their season, too, and apples and pears.”Series

Summary
Yuder’s grandfather always told him to be careful who he talked too, sure there was the classic stranger danger reason, but there was also the fact that people tend to fall over whenever a siren asks them to do something.
This small detail won’t change much, but it still changes just enough to make a difference .
