Summary
To be chosen to represent the Honmoon, their great goddess, was one of the greatest honours a young woman could be bestowed with. Every year, nine lucky women were chosen to live at the Temple in Jeju Island as they trained to fulfill their duty to the Honmoon and protect the world against demons.
For Mira, this would finally demonstrate to her family that she really was a woman, and she was determined to have them accept her.
For Zoey, she finally felt she could belong somewhere, be part of something bigger than herself.
However, this year, eleven women showed up. Two of them clearly don’t belong, and in everyone’s opinion, the two outcasts who have yet to summon anything from the Honmoon had to be the outliers: Mira and Zoey.
Since that moment, the two women have been trying their best to show that they do deserve to be there.
And their only friend seems to be a lonely gardener who tends to the grounds of the Temple…

every year on August 21st she'd do the one single thing she did for herself to— she wouldn't call it celebrate exactly, but would use it for lack of a better word. She'd go to the nearest store the day before, buy a single cupcake, usually the saddest-looking one because it just felt right, and a single cheap candle.
When the clock struck midnight, as she'd sit alone in the kitchen aisle of their ginormous penthouse, she'd light up the candle, sink it into the cupcake and watch the flame dance with the light breeze that came from whichever window they had forgotten to close before bed.
Watching the beautiful dance of orange and yellow and blue always made her space out a little, chin propped on her folded arms resting atop the table. In these moments, she'd let herself imagine what it must feel to be celebrated — not as an obligation but because there was someone out there happy that she was alive.

Summary
She couldn't change who she was; the portrait of her life was painted a masterpiece, inerrant in its design. It was too much and it wasn't enough. It was all just playing at a person she wasn't and never could be. She was a fake and a fraud in every element of her life: from her performance as an Idol, to her duties as a Hunter, to being whatever this thing was in the mirror. This mirror was taunting her, mocking what she tried to make herself and laughing as it offered the promise of an unreachable dream.
After the disaster of the Idol Awards, HUNTR/X is forcibly rebranded. Rumi is on a solo tour. Zoey and Mira are pulled into a sub-unit, ARTEM/S, and forced into roles that neither of them signed up for.
Mira's hair is cut and re-dyed. Her dance choreography is taken from her. Her fashion is contorted and pulled into an unchosen archetype, The Prince.
As for Zoey? She gets to be The Princess.
Lucky her.

Mira remembers how her chest fills with butterflies when Zoey kisses her lips.
Mira remembers how Zoey’s hand feels in her own. She remembers how Zoey’s fingers fidget, wiggling between hers or playing with her knuckles when she’s nervous. Mira remembers how Zoey’s shoulders drop when she kisses the back of her hand in earnest.
Mira knows Zoey is made of everything good in this world. She’s a mix of dandelions, the evening breeze, and fluffy clouds in the sky.
There are other things about Zoey that Mira could never forget, even if she tries.
The mischievous grin on her face as they run toward a demon fight.
The sound of her shin-kals whizzing through the air, striking true.
Her agonizing scream when a demon sinks its claws into her chest.
(It’s enough to drive Mira into madness.)
The horrid slap of flesh and bone on concrete when Zoey collapses.
(It echoes through Mira’s mind no matter how many times she wishes she could forget.)
