One secret leads to another, and soon the life Katniss built entirely around survival begins to grow into something she never expected. She is making art. Teaching music. Forming friendships on both sides of District 12.

    But District 12 has rules nobody writes down. The Seam stays with the Seam. The Town stays with the Town. Katniss and Peeta are not supposed to cross that line, much less convince anyone else to cross it with them. As their friendships, music, and illegal work begin connecting people from both sides of the district, Katniss and Peeta start asking dangerous questions about who benefits from keeping them divided. And as the 74th Hunger Games draw closer, she and Peeta may discover that breaking the walls between the Seam and the Town is easier than keeping those same walls from breaking them.
