Summary
Midway through senior year, the Literature Club was dismantled by one man. After being rejected, Sayori’s "childhood best friend" used his knowledge of the girls private poetry to turn their secrets into half-true rumors. The lies spread through the community, from the school all the way to Natsuki's father, and the group broke into pieces.
Two years after the trauma, Natsuki and Yuri are sophomores at the same university. They're utterly unaware of the other's presence, and desperate for some kind of human connection.

Monika stood next to the door of the low income apartment with ‘06’ faded on its door.
She let the muggy, minty smoke from her menthol cigarette float lazily up to the awning above the porch while she watched the early evening rain, her eyes occasionally drawn to the beat up ford that sat in front of her in the parking lot.
Her fist balled tight and she took a deep breath as she put her cigarette out on the outside of the Carhartt jacket she took from her dad.
The plan, as it originally was, was simple.
Monika came into a rather large inheritance when her grandmother died, she always was the woman’s favorite. She knew what she wanted to do with it right away, she knew each and every one of her friends had problems with their home lives that they’d rather get away from, herself included.

Summary
It's that time of year again: Preparations for the school's annual dance are underway. And there are four students who are tasked with organising it.
Natsuki can't bear to spend any more time at home with her abusive father. So, afterschool preparations are her excuse to get out of the house, and planning the dance is just the escape she needs.
Sayori already knows exactly what she'll tell anyone who asks: "I'm doing this to make everyone happy!" But in reality, it's a distraction from what her life has become: A dark tunnel with no escape. And maybe this will finally be the exit to it all.
Yuri, who has no friends in her life, decides to sign up in the hopes that it will be enough for her to build the lasting connections and friendships that she has wanted all her life.
And finally, Monika, who has been attending this school for a year now after moving house, but still can't seem to adjust and be as loved as she was at her old one. So this is the chance she needs to make a good impression.
