They were all on top of each other, as if she’d tried again and again to open the wound. On a human, such a blow would have been fatal in minutes. But for a fae… it took every ounce of his ability not to fall to his knees.

    “Nesta,” he said carefully, so soft and delicate, but she just kept speaking quietly, as if he wasn’t actually there and she was instead addressing whatever version of him existed in her mind.

    “I was hoping not to wake you. Actually, I was hoping you would do it,” she muttered, shaking her head. “I thought that was why we were here. But then you just kept walking and walking, and I couldn’t fucking take it anymore.”
