    Summary

The research facility did not explode, so Ryland Grace did not go to Erid by way of Tau Ceti. By certain methods of cunning Eva Stratt did not get convicted of spurious crimes and sent to prison.

However it's a cold world and growing colder. No matter how much Grace and Eva try to stay ahead of the curve, scramble and innovate and strong arm humanity into survival instead of freezing over or collapsing in on itself, there's a long road ahead. Without the direct action of the Hail Mary launch, Eva has less political power and thanks to her work and Grace's innovations, they have to deal with a far more public facing image. And earth, on the whole, is not even as marginally sane as it was.

What's more, there are the children to consider. Combining two famously difficult personalities into two small, new people who are growing up in a chilling world was never going to be effortless experience.

    “Grace, question?”

I perk up at the sound of Rocky's voice. It's not uncommon after almost two years into our trip to Erid to ask random questions about me, or humans, or really earth in general. Especially after an hour or two on his computer.

    “Yes Rocky?”

“Humans persistence predators, question? Humans hunters, question?”

    “Ah.”
