Gigant animal-drawn sledges carry Dr. Nik Ashcroft across icy plains of a frozen planet. Two sturdy native Avag men drive them.
It’s too cold to talk, so Nik doesn’t even know their names.
Despite that, as soon as the journey starts, his driver for the day rather matter-of-factly introduces him to the Avag idea of ‘sharing warmth.’
What is Nik to do? If he protests, he may offend the guy his immediate survival depends on.
