Summary
Twenty eight year old Carol Sturka is an aspiring author, presently working a temp position at Brooks & Bennet Law Offices in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She's also a self-proclaimed misanthrope, insulted by romance, holding firm in her assertion that to need another person is weakness, and to want them is even worse. So, literally running face first into the most gorgeous woman she's ever seen is maybe the worst case scenario. It's about to be her lucky day.
Helen Umstead is being careful. She understands all too well what it is to have your life feel completely out of your control, and she isn't about to let it happen again. She finally has a real job, with room for forward momentum, and her own apartment. She can manage the subtle chaos of daily life, and she feels stable for the first time ever. So, that restlessness nagging at her from the pit of her stomach, waking her up at all hours of the night, really isn't helpful. The monotony is what's best for her, or at least that's what she tells herself. Getting involved with the whirlwind that is Carol Sturka is a risk. A big one. And she just might have to take it.
TLDR: Baby sturstead desperately tries not to fall in love (three guesses how that turns out)

Summary
This is a modern alternative universe where two different Carols take center stage. One is Carol Sturka, a bestselling author living in Albuquerque, who has a tendency to drown both her grief and her pessimism in alcohol and who fiercely defends her privacy. The other is Carol Aird, a New Yorker, happily married to her lifelong love the photographer Therese Belivet.
When Therese meets Carol - the writer - during a photoshoot to promote her latest book, it marks the beginning of a long-distance friendship. No harm will be done to Carol and Therese, I promise. Also, no alien virus and no hivemind. However, a tall brunette named Zosia will obviously be there. On the agenda: fun and fluff, and a touch of angst, surrounding a character on her difficult way back to life and love.
Characters are not mine. Weird phrasing and mistakes are (English is not my native language).

Summary
Rio raised her chin, her face relaxing in disinterest. “So why are you only pinching me now?”
“I needed an eye witness actually seeing you in action.” She titled her head, her gaze curious roaming over Rio’s body. “I’ll give it to you, your sleight of hand isn’t half bad.” Her free hand came to Rio’s thigh, slowly trailing upwards. “And you can’t necessarily swap cards without doing a little counting too, right? That takes some skill, hon.”
Rio’s tongue felt heavy, the warmth of this woman’s touch was spreading across her skin like delicious pin pricks. “I don’t know what you mean,” Rio sweetly lied.
“Mmmh,” she hummed, her fingertips skating underneath the hem of Rio’s skirt. There was a rough tug followed by the sharp snap of her garter. The owner held up the cards in show. “You’re a terrible liar for your line of work, baby.”
