    Summary

Two aliens meeting in Tau Ceti is a mysterious stroke of fate, brought about by the shared threat of extinction.

The third alien, quite frankly, is just trying to write a paper for his thesis, and didn't expect to encounter anyone else in this system.

What if the Hail Mary was secretly a Transformer ordered to protect his crew with his life? And what if he had known his crew from the beginning?

AKA, the only reason Ryland Grace didn't know a single human worth saving the world for was because who he actually needed was a Cybertronian.

“Rocky not explain question?” asked Adrian slowly.
    “Busy,” said Rocky, sheepish.
    “Had four years on ship.”
    “Busy then too.”
Adrian skittered back and forth, which I think equated to a human throwing both hands up in exasperation. “With what question?”
    “Science!”
“Whole time science question? Four years!”
    “Is much science in universe!”

    --

Rocky has neglected to explain some very important cultural context to Grace.

    Summary

Five times Rocky helps keep Grace warm and one time he doesn’t have to (but does anyway).

    ~

There’s something warm shoved against him.

    He creaks his eyes open.

    Finds his quilt and Rocky.

Moves to drape the quilt around his shoulders and press his cheek against the xenonite ball.

Closes his eyes when he feels Rocky press against the ball too.

“Grace rest. Grace warm. Rocky here.”
