Summary
Prince Sonic has been leading the Freedom Fight against Black Doom's empire for years. When his mother, Queen Aleena, orders Sonic to go to the coming-of-age ceremony of Prince Shadow with the hopes of an engagement, Sonic is horrified. He's more horrified to learn that the Queen wants him to assassinate the other prince. Sonic is determined to find another way to protect his people, but with the looming threat of a mysterious power source Doom is rumored to be in possession of and General Infinite entering the scene, Sonic may not have a choice.
Prince Shadow plans to overthrow his father, Emperor Black Doom, who has been neglecting their people for far too long. When the Prince of Mobotropolis appears at his coming-of-age ceremony, Shadow is presented with a unique opportunity. Prince Sonic is an unpredictable variable, but one that may help Shadow achieve his goals, in the end.
Neither of them plan to fall for each other in the process.

Sonic’s laughter followed him, soft and low, teasing, echoing like a dare along the sterile corridor. “Aw, come on,” he called, eyes glittering with that unbearable mix of charm and mischief when he caught up with him. “Don’t look so thrilled. We’ll have fun. You might even teach me about… whatever it is you nerds drool over.”
“Advanced chemistry.”
“Right. That.” Sonic leaned in, smirk widening, mischief in every word. “Bet I’ll ace it faster than you think. I’ve got hidden talents.”
Shadow’s lips curled in a scowl that almost, almost, resembled a smirk. “Your only talent is swinging a bat.”
“And running circles around guys like you,” the other shot back, teeth flashing, the corridor blurring slightly as if he already had.

Shadow the hedgehog realizes he's very much in love with Sonic and acts very normally. Huh, that's not right, ah, here it is! Shadow the hedgehog realizes he's in love with Sonic and tries to tell him without ever saying the words. It goes well and Sonic understands immediately. Why is it 36k words? Because I hate them and they make me sick and I'm apparently incapable of being normal about the things I like.
