Summary
“Is this the end?”
If this was the end, it was better than he’d dared hope.
“Sam,” a gentle voice said.
Sam was out of the Cage - or so said the stranger with blue eyes. He talked about soup, about healing, about someone called Celine Dion. But Sam knew exactly how far Lucifer would go to fake tenderness.
(COMPLETE OTHER THAN EPILOGUE. Promptly crashed into oh-god-this-is-awful depression after writing penultimate chapter, then oh-wow-this-is-great hypomania. Cue shiny new bipolar 2 diagnosis. I am now working on a thing called "stability" and hopefully that stability will one day include me finally wrapping up this fic. Ty for patience.)

Summary
They’ll drive past a fire, in the mountains. Distant enough that it’s just a haze in the air, but close enough that each breath is acrid. Sam will fight sleep, when Dean starts driving, by telling Jack about how humans fight wildfires. Hotshots and airtankers. He’ll tell Jack about drought, and careless people that start the fires sometimes, or the dry lightning storms that haunt the western states.
