Kirkwall had never been kind to Hawke, and the night Anders attacked the Chantry remained the single worst night of his life.
The mage rebellion was meant to be better - was meant to be fighting for a future where mages weren’t broken and abused. It wasn’t meant to be filled with cowards, run by leaders unwilling to be bold.
It certainly wasn’t meant to be taken over by the Imperium.

Summary
The Qunari came in force to Kirkwall - their first invasion of Southern Thedas since the Storm Age. Abandoned by their fellow Marcher cities, the Arishok rules with an iron fist - searching for the Tome of Koslun by any means necessary.
Hawke, avoiding capture by both the Qun and the Templars, sticks to the shadows, a thorn in everyone’s side. He won’t rest until the Arishok is dead and his city is free, but every day is a struggle to stay alive. With the bounty on his head only increasing, it’s only a matter of time before he’s captured - but how much damage can he do in the meantime?
An AU where the Qunari win the attack on Kirkwall, taking the city, and Hawke plays the role of rebel and resistance fighter.

Summary
When Isabela returns during the sacking of Kirkwall with the Tome of Koslun, Hawke tells her to run, knowing the Qunari will demand her life as punishment for her crimes. He doesn’t expect them to demand his for allowing her to escape.
Years later, Inquisitor Lavellan survives an assassination attempt by the Qunari after the alliance falls through. Among the attackers is a human Saarebas whom Varric recognises as his old friend.
Saarebas doesn’t remember who he was before the collar was placed around his throat. But he sure recognises that crossbow.
