But this was different. This guy looked like he was the forest.
"Morning," Kip said, aiming for breezy and landing somewhere near slightly breathless. "What can I get started for you? We have a Guatemalan roast today that has notes of chocolate and existential dread, if that's your vibe."

Forest Ranger Nefise Petrus is tasked with rescuing three climbers in the Washington Olympic Mountains from a freak ice storm. Taking cover in system of forgotten lava tubes, the four delve deeper, where they discover a direct magic source in a non-magical world. The magically irradiated hot spring at the end of the cave not only heals their wounds, but gives them powers they don't fully understand, as well as a portal to another world.
But, of course, the US military sees this site of misunderstood radiation and portal as a weapons. Nefise must decide whether to follow orders or her morals as a conscientious objector. As her powers grow, maintaining her relationships will become just as challenging as her new, secretive life.

They did their mission, and a wasp was found responsible. But while attempting to gather evidence of the crime, they accidentally opened a portal and were sent to the Wild Swamplands. But they quickly realize that they're no longer in the same Bugaria that they knew and loved; they were in Bugaria that wasn't theirs, not even the same reality.
It's a race against time as they try to return to their world, but when they meet their other selves and discover the dark, horrible reality behind this world, Team Snakemouth's heart is torn, struck by selfless desire to help. In a world where they were less fortunate, where the worst happened, where dystopian tyranny reigns, can they simply stay and help their counterpart? And as they learn even more, it's getting harder for them not to stay.
