With a flourish, Bones produced a flask of something brightly coloured and dangerous-looking. He waggled his eyebrows, a mischievous smirk on his lips. "After the month we've had, I thought we could both use a little R&R. If you've got time for me, that is."
"I always do."
"Good." Bones headed over to the drinks cabinet, plucking two glasses from the bar. He shot Jim another mischievous look over his shoulder as he uncorked the bottle. "Wanna get drunk and fool around?"
Queerplatonic/FwB McKirk, set between The Voyage Home and The Final Frontier. Jim and Bones are getting older, and they find things aren't as they used to be. It's them, though, so they work it out together.

He’s made his peace with it. Truly, he has. The two of them, they’re soulmates, if such a thing exists. They work together so well, so seamlessly, it’s like they have one mind in two bodies. And he’s not an idiot. He knows they care about him – hell, he wouldn’t be here right now if they didn’t – but he’s not going to put himself before either of them. Wouldn’t anyway, if they were anyone else, but with them, it’s different – the thing he’d been holding onto in that awful cell was the thought that at least they’d be together, Spock and Jim, at least he could give them that.
Bones tries to sacrifice himself for his best friends yet again, but this time when they get him back, they plan to keep him.

McCoy manages to pull himself away, put on a show for Kirk and Rand and the other technician, all watching him until he gets out into the corridor, headed for an unfamiliar sickbay. Kirk needs him, so he'll have to stay. Just for this mission. For Kirk.
He'll just have to guard his heart better this time.
Set during the Motion Picture.
Drafted back into Starfleet after three years of silence, McCoy accepts that he's the only one who can give Kirk what he needs. Doesn't mean he has to enjoy it, though.
