“Needs, wants, requests… You’re really so unoriginal, aren’t you?” Kayne hums, tone reminiscent of a parent fawning over a toddler’s mistake. "The mind can be much more eloquent, can’t it? Not constrained by words and high functioning thought processes and mouths. No, the mind just screams and begs. It acts, Arty boy. And do you know what act your mind has committed?”
Kayne pauses, waits. Lingers in the drafty silence just long enough for Arthur to realize he’s expected to respond, though he has no idea what to say, has no idea where Kayne is even going with this. The moment he opens his mouth, however, Kayne steam rolls right back over him anyway.
“Your fragile, pathetic, stupidly comprehensible brain–” he says, accentuated by a firm poke against the center of Arthur’s forehead. “--committed the very brave and very foolish act of making a wish.”

Arthur is desperate. Kayne uses that to his advantage.
