Nimona had an uncanny knack for zeroing in on a person’s worst insecurities, Ambrosius thought vaguely as panic threatened to overwhelm him. That exact terror kept him up some nights. The idea that Ballister was harboring some small seed of resentment, that some day a week or a month or a year down the line Bal would suddenly come to his senses, tell Ambrosius that he couldn’t possibly forgive him after all and that he’d better leave.
Nimona is back. She and Ambrosius have a talk.

It's been a full year of living in close quarters on the Hail Mary. Grace was bound to mess up eventually.
If Grace was still on Earth, he would have plenty of options for places to go. A quiet park, maybe a movie theater, a walk on the beach. Something like that. As it is, stuck on the Hail Mary, he just doesn’t have that many options of places to go after a fight with his roommate.

This is all Rocky's fault. He was stupid, stupid, stupid. How could he be so stupid and let this happen? Between the two of them, Grace was supposed to be the stupid one, not Rocky.
They were supposed to be okay, fine. Rocky and Grace saved the stars, saved Earth and Erid, saved humans and eridians. Rocky helped Grace and Grace helped Rocky. Then Grace saved Rocky. So Rocky had to save Grace.
Now they're supposed to be safe and fine.
But Grace isn't fine. Not at all. And it's all his fault.
Or, Grace accidentally comes into contact with Erid bacteria and gets sick, Rocky (understandably) panics

One Grace-sleep is not so long.
It is not “night,” but Grace calls it night, and so Rocky does too. One human night. One third of one human day. One three-hundred-thousandth of Rocky’s life so far.
This is what Rocky tells himself. He folds up on his xenonite shelf above Grace’s sleeping area, and he listens, and he fiddles with his clock, and he tells himself that it is not so long.

Rocky has lived through the deaths of many of his friends. He does not want to lose Grace.
